Application for Non-Supervisory, Graduate Faculty Status in a McMasterUniversity, Faculty of Health Sciences Affiliated Graduate Program

The following document contains the application form for individuals that are applying for, or have, Faculty positions (within and outside of the Faculty of Health Sciences) and wish to be approved for Graduate Program Non-Supervisory Privileges in Health Sciences Affiliated Graduate Programs. Please note: the application should be prepared with the knowledge that McMasterUniversity policies require an assessment of the applicant, as a potential, graduate program faculty, for many of the following “suggested” qualities:

1) a programme of research, as shown by research grants or contracts

2) a regular flow of peer-reviewed publications, consistent with expectations in the discipline

3) experience with the supervision of graduate research papers or masters theses

4) experience with designing and teaching a graduate course

5) membership on Ph.D. supervisory committees, or involvement with graduate supervision as a secondary supervisor

Applicants may be considered for non-supervisory roles if they have:

1)Advanced academic qualification(s) (e.g. Master’s degree or equivalent)

2)Demonstrated teaching experience, preferably at a graduate level

3)Demonstrated expertise and experience in the content area of teaching/mentorship

4)Demonstrated commitment to professional advancement as an educator/advisor

The application process steps are follows:

Step I: The applicant fills in Page 1of the application for electronic submission (with CV) to:

  1. the Department Chair (or equivalent) of the faculty member’s primary department (eg. Medicine, Pathology & Molecular Medicine, etc.) or in the case of Joint Appointment, both Department Chairs
  2. the Academic Head (Assistant Dean/Associate Chair/Program Director) of the relevant Graduate Program

Step II: The Graduate Program Head (e.g. Assistant Dean or Program Director) and the applicant’s Department Chair(s) review the submission and jointly decide if the application should be approved. For interdisciplinary programs, the signature of the Program Representative to the Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Curriculum and Policy Council (GPCC) is required if this is not the Program Director.

Do not use this form if applying for supervisory roles in graduate programs

Applicants are to complete all items on this page and attach their curriculum vitae with their electronic submission. The curriculum vitae should detail prior and current appointments, research training, educational degree(s) (with details of year completed, University, program), publications, previous and current grant funding, all relevant teaching and graduate program experiences as faculty (e.g. courses taught, educational roles, numbers and types of student supervised, roles in program committees, courses, examinations, etc). Each program requires a separate application except for Programs in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences.
