Individual Placement Description

Placement / Emergency Medicine F2The department / The Emergency Department at TGH is a busy Department, attending to approximately 78,000 patients a year. The Department sees a full range of emergency patients.
The type of work to expect and learning opportunities / Work varied in the different departments in A & E.
Minors – falls, injuries. Base – medical problems, some surgical e.g. acute abdomen. Resus – arrests, traumas, serious medical. Assessing and managing patients who attend the Emergency Department. Managing acutely unwell patients under supervision. There is also ample opportunity to do assessments

Clinical Supervisor(s) for the placement / Mr R Kollimada, Mr M Qureshi, Mr B Allie, Dr N Contractor, Mr. V. Ameh, Mr. A. Shafqat and Mr. Y. Sharma.
Main duties of the placement / Assessing and managing a wide variety of patients, including children, adults, acutely unwell patients, including trauma patients, under supervision
Typical working pattern in this placement / A 10 week full shift rota. F2 Training & ED training on a Thursday afternoon: Example of 1 week:
Mon: 0800 – 1700
Tues: 0800 – 1700
Wed: 0800 – 1700
Thurs: Zero Hours - Teaching in afternoon
Fri: Zero House
Sat: 0800 -1700
Sun: 0800 – 1700
On call requirements: 1 in 10 week of nights -working 6 weekends in 10but with days off to compensate.
Employer information / Tameside NHS Foundation Trust serves the needs of approximately 250,000 people who live both within an industrialised area including the 9 towns which make up the Local Authority of Tameside in Greater Manchester. However, Glossop, with its population of approximately 28,000 is part of Derbyshire High Peak Borough Council, which provides the challenges of a more rural community.
The Trust is based at Tameside General Hospital which is located in Ashton under Lyne.
The hospital has 549 acute beds on the hospital site, excluding Mental illness, which is managed by the neighbouring Pennine Care Mental Health Trust.
