  • Review leanings from the 2010 Appalachian Basin Gas Well Seminar.

-Had more people in his course than expected.
–Great that we had people sign up late.
–We should be OK on the finances.
Would prefer to have it in a hotel.Moving to a Hotel in Pittsburg.

–Need to improve advertising.
Not much value in the last panel on the Ask the Experts. Drop it.
–Need a certificate for continuing education. Can do.
–Need a course on gas-lift and gas circulation. Planning on it.
–Ronda Brewer
–Should have a better idea on what to expect next year.
–Some people didn’t go to the course they signed up for.
–People didn’t know there were 30 minute breaks during the courses.
–Need to have specific breaks for Day One. We can do this.
–Rodney Bane
–Classroom set up was difficult.
–Need bigger rooms for classes.
–Need to consolidate with break space. OK
–Need better information on parking. OK
–Need to tailor a training session for Field Operators. Practical subjects. Not technical. Need an outline, and an instructor. Ask Matt Vavro. Kevin Dudley will check with him.
–The Exhibits were very good.
–Need to get feedback from the Exhibitors.

–Get advertising out early.
–Send a follow-up letter to all attendees.
–Would like to have a more central location. Addressed with move to Pittsburg.

–Impressed by the way it came together.
–Handled well the expansion from about 100 to 150.
–Want to know where people come from.
–We will send a list of attendees to the Committee.
–Conference Room space was good.
–We need a list of recommended restaurants and bars in the area. Hotels can do this.

–Lea’s session needs to be in the McDonough Center.
–There is an area called the Trustees’ Conference room in the Field House.
–There is another conference room in the Field House.
–Would do door prize drawings in the Exhibit area. We can do this.
–Liked John Rinehart’s talk.
–A few exhibitors wanted a connection at the Marietta Country Club for golf. Bob could organize this as a golf session on Sunday morning.
–We could consider getting “special deals” at local hotels.
–Include more design work in the courses.

-The consensus is that we should have this again.
-We want to avoid the time of the Calgary oil show and the Pennsylvania show.
-It looks like the week of June 13will work. We need to determine the actual days for the event.

  • If the Seminar will be held again, where should it be held?
-The consensus at this meeting was that the 2011 event will be in Marietta, Ohio.
-However, several of the Evaluation Sheets said they would prefer Pittsburg.
-So, we need to review this decision.
Agenda and Minutes: July 20, 2010
  • Several people have commented that they would prefer to have the next Seminar in Pittsburg.
  • They feel that this would attract more attendance.
  • What are thoughts on this?
-The consensus of the participants is that the next Seminar should be in Pittsburg.
-This will allow more people to attend.
-And it will provide better facilities for Exhibits, Classes, and Technical Sessions to be in the same facility.
-We need to discuss this one more time at the next meeting and reach a final decision.

  • The consensus at the last meeting was that the next Seminar should be held in Pittsburg.
  • Is this still the consensus, or are there other feelings on the location for 2011?
-It is agreed to move the Seminar to Pittsburg for 2011.
-Potential venues include:

-Sheraton Four Point;
-Convention Center;
-Holiday Inn near airport.
-Hilton Garden Inn in the South Point area;
-Expo Center convention center in Monroeville.

-So far the hotels have not responded to requests for information.

  • Best practices from the Barnett, Haynesville: Bill Elmer
  • Sessions on Horizontals and Shale: there was an overlap.
-Biggest challenges in Marcellus:
  • Managing fluid produced.
  • Producing existing wells which are neglected,
  • Water issues with fracturing,
  • Concern of “black eyes” to the industry
  • How to bring wells back after a fracture.
  • Best types of artificial lift to use.
  • Life of well considerations.
  • Stay on the decline curve.
  • Automation.
  • Compression.
  • Scale, salt deposition, corrosion.
