The Church of Christ

The Church of Christ was established on the day of Pentecost. (Pentecost meaning “fifty days” after Jesus was raised from the dead). On that day the Apostle Paul preached the first gospel sermon and 3,000 souls herd, believed, repented and were baptized and were added to the church. So the Church was composed of the chosen Disciples of Christ, those whom he made while here on earth (John 4:1). He also commanded them to make disciples of all nations.

What We Believe

GOD - We believe that there is but one true and living God; God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit.

GOD, THE SON – We believe that Jesus Christ is the living Son of God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). Christ alone is now mediator between God and man.

THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe that the Holy Spirit was since the beginning. “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2b).

THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH – We believe that the Church of Christ in the Scriptures is a New Testament Church (Matthew16:18); the Old Testament Scriptures serves as a “Schoolmaster” to bring us to Christ; “But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster” (Galatians 3:23-26) We call ourselves a New Testament Church because our salvation, hope and eternal life came through Christ Jesus.

DISCIPLESHIP – We believe a disciple is a follower of Christ and adheres to His doctrine. “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this love men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:34-35).

BAPTISM – We believe in baptism by complete physical immersion in water. We believe that Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River as a public proclamation of his alliance to God. (Matthew 3:13-17) This form of baptism pleased God.

HOLY COMMUNION – We believe that the observance of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion) is essential for all believers. We believe that eating of the unleavened bread and drinking of the unfermented grape juice memorializes thee suffering and death of Christ. This act serves as a reminder to us of the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord for the Church and for us individually (Luke 22:1-23).

FEET WASHING – We believe that this service initiated by Christ is binding upon all His Disciples. “And Supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel and girded himself, and began to wash the disciples’ feet,, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded” (John 13:2-5;13-17).”Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then your Lord and Master have washed your feet; ye also oughtto wash one another’s feet”.
