Poverty

Every year the US Census Bureau counts the number of people living in poverty in the US. The Bureau uses monetary income thresholds to define poverty, so noncash benefits such as Medicaid and food stamps do not count toward poverty thresholds. For example, in 2009 the poverty threshold for a family of four with two children was $21,756. The bar graph represents the number of people living in poverty in the US in 2009 by ethnicity.
