This workshop is aimed at anyone who would like to try their hand at writing for publication in the medical education press. The session includes a step-by-step plan for writing a manuscript for submission, including:
  • Organising your work to journal standards, including understanding section subheadings, format standards, and effective collaborative writing
  • Editing your work and getting useful peer feedback
  • Better understanding the peer-review process in journals
  • Better understanding the needs of journal editors and publishers
There will also be opportunities to discuss successes and difficulties that you may have encountered in writing. / Competencies in Action - Medical Leadership for SAS doctors:
The Medical Leadership Competency Framework (MLCF) describes the leadership competencies all doctors need to become more actively involved in the planning, delivery and transformation of health services.
This workshop has been designed to introduce the MLCF and discuss strategies for implementation for SAS doctors.
Delegates will receive information about the MLCF and resources available, hear an SAS doctors experience of medical leadership and will be asked to debate ideas about how best to implement the MLCF.
If you would like more information on the MLCF before the workshop please see: / Revalidation and Effective Appraisal:
The introduction of Revalidation in 2012 will mark one of the most fundamental changes to the way the medical profession is regulated in generations. Doctors will need to demonstrate their fitness to practice to the GMC by participating in new, beefed up, local systems.
In 2011, the NHS in England will be introducing Strengthened Appraisal, and Trusts will be enhancing existing mechanisms to ensure that they are fit for purpose. If they have not already been doing so, all doctors will need to produce portfolios of supporting information for the process.
This short workshop will look at the mechanics of Revalidation and the role that Appraisal will play within it. The session will look at the role of Appraisers and Medical Management, and will cover doctors in difficulty. The session will enable participants to better understand how the process will work and what they will need to do to participate in Revalidation.
