Our spring conference was held on April 21st at The Palms in Plainfield. This conference was built around the pillars of Nurse Resiliency, Patient Safety, Nurse Bullying and Violence in the Workplace. Speakers included: Kay Clevenger with STTI presenting on Lateral Violence, Andrea Platt with St Vincents on Nurse Attentiveness, Kim Tharpe-Barrie from Norton Healthcare on “Mean Girls” and Jay Dotson from Fortress Preparedness Services on Active Shooter/ Workplace Threat Management. Also for this conference, the program committee worked with the IONE board and the strategic planningleaders to present education to the membership and to solicit ideas for continued progress in these priorities. Continuing Education in the amount of 5.3 hours were awarded to 130 attendees. Conference evaluations were positive and shared with the respective speakers.
There will be no Spring 2018 conference to encourage member attendance at the AONE conference in Indianapolis.
We are looking forward to our fall conference in French Lick beginning on October 18th. IONE will host the AONE pre-conference certification course on October 17th. We currently have 186 registrations for our conference! 15.9 hours of CE will be awarded for full-conference attendance. Our featured speakers include Cy Wakeman, Pat Posa and Devon Harris. IHA facilitated funding to secure Posa as a speaker on the Culture of Patient Safety. Cy will be presenting information from her new book “No Ego: How Leaders Can Cut the Cost of Drama, Eradicate Entitlement and Drive Big Results”. With the help of vendor sponsorship, all attendees will receive a copy of Cy’s book. Devon Harris will wrap up the conference speaking about overcoming obstacles and persevering.
We have 31 paid vendors and 1 free vendor (Honor Guard)-completely filling our Vendor Hall. This year we moved vendors into a conference room, where we will serve drinks (hydration station) in the middle of the room and our lunch dessert mid-afternoon as a way to pull attendees to this area. Vendor sponsorship was secured for the Wine & Canvas, Meet & Greet, Pizza/Bowling event and book give away.
Thursday is our “Research Day” where we will showcase some of the awesome work being done by Indiana nurse leaders. This includes 11 posters and a panel on implementing research-based best practices. Past President lunch and special awards given to retiring nurse leaders. The IONE BOD meeting will take place at the end of the day with membership welcome to attend.
On Friday, we will support IONE priorities on influencing the care environment and mentoring new nurses through our panel on Nurse Residency Programs. This will share many best practices from facilities with thriving programs!
The entire Program Committee has worked diligently this past year to bring IONE a fantastic Spring and Fall Conference for the 2017 year. We thank IONE for all the support and the opportunity we have been given to bring together all these wonderful nurse leaders!
Respectfully submitted,
Kelly Ortman
