ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY – DECEMBER 2008

The Department ended the year with it’s normal duties of availing the necessary forms used in the Hospital. Submission of monthly and Weekly Surveillance reports the District Health Office Kumi and HealthSub-District in AtuturHospital were also delivered on time.

The Department managed to score 100% this year on timely reporting whereas last year 2007 we scored 96%. This shows that there was improvement on data collection and analysis.

The graph below shows the trends of OPD Attendance from the year 2004 to 2008

Towards the end of the year 2006 and 2007 that when we had floods that showed and increase of patients attendance due to malaria prevalence.

The decline on the numbers on Malaria episodes may be due to the introduction of Coartem and also the month of Jan – April are months when we experience dry weather which reduces the malaria epidemic..

WARD ADMISSIONS

The graph below shows In- patients ward admissions for each individual ward from January to December 2008. The Paediatric ward admitted the highest number of patients followed by Surgical and Maternity respectively.

LABORATORY SERVICES

The Department kept on functioning well, and also had a number of students fro various Institutions who had come for the Practical Attachment. Also thanks go the Administration for the support rendered to the Department on facilitation for collection of Blood and purchase of Laboratory reagents.

You will find that the months of March, April and May where the number of positive cases for Malaria parasites are high compared to 1st quarter.

MATERNITY SERVICES

Maternity continued to receive referrals from our neighbouring Health Facilities especially mothers with obstructed labour as seen in the graph below those done caessrian sections and clients who self report for delivery in the Unit.

ANTENATAL/PMTCT CLINC

The Unit handles mothers of Postnatal and PMTCT services both in the Unit and in the Outreaches.

THEATRE OPERATIONS

The Theatre continued with it’s normal daily activities and receiving AMREF Flying Surgeons and others from other visiting Surgeons.

The graph here below shows the Major and Minor operations carried during the year 2008.

In the graph above, the months of February. May, October and November those were days we had visiting Surgeons and Surgical Camp in our Hospital

On the above summaries, we hereby thank the Management for giving us a helping hand financially and materially (i.e. availing enough stationery for our daily use and facilitation on delivering Monthly and Weekly reports to the District Health Office and DistrictHealthSub-District.
