Annual Report for the 2015-2016 School Year
Dear Parents/Guardians and School Community:
Welcome back! We hope you had a safe and enjoyable summer. We are happy to inform you that the 2015-2016 school year was a very rewarding one for our School Council. We look forward to continuing to support the success of students at our school, and the inclusion of parents and guardians as their children’s first teachers.
The school council is a group of parents, staff and community members focused on promoting student achievement, the learning environment and parental involvement. By making recommendations directly to our principal and school board, council members can make a real difference in our school and community.
All school council meetings are open to the public and we encourage input from everyone in our school community. If you would like to become a part of our team, or have a suggestion, or question for the council, please feel free to contact us via e-mail. We also welcome you to attend any of our council meetings throughout the year

Activity Summary
School Council’s main event was a guest speaker by the name of Kate Joes; Kate Jones is anexpert in parent child relationships. The topic she presented was “Understanding Your Kid’s Behaviour”. Her presentation was based on the following: First one needs to gain a good understanding of a child’s personality strengths. Then you can build a relationship through your knowledge of their specific stressors, communication style, homework style, etc. We were able to have this speaker as a result of the Peel Boards 2015-16 Parent Reaching Out (PRO) grant present to the MSS School Council.
As a school council we made one of our priorities to create an action plan for the 2016-17 year. That action plan is to increase parent involvement by creating a welcoming environment for parents as partners in their children's education; Enhances attendance at parent events at the school and most importantly raise the profile of the school in the community. We applied for and have received the Peel Boards Parent Reaching Out (PRO) grant to achieve this objective.
Council also organized a Karaoke night for student and parents, but because of some scheduling difficulties this event was re-scheduled for the 2016-17 school year. Council supported and participated in MSS’ Culture Night for the community.
In addition, the MSS Council sent two representatives to the Peel Board’s “It's A Family Affair - Appreciation Event for School Council Members”. This event included School Councils from all over peel;the purpose of this event was to thank the School Councils for their involvement and more importantly to exchange best practices.
