ANNOUNCEMENT OF FIXED-TERM POSITION – 2014

Coordinator of Sport Coaching and Leadership Online Programs

Department of Kinesiology, Michigan State University

The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University is seeking a fixed-term faculty member to coordinate our Sport Coaching and Leadership online programs. Applications are encouraged from scholars withexpertise in educational technology andany kinesiology subdiscipline(s) as applied to sport coaching. Applicants who can meaningfully advance the mission of our Institute for the Study of Youth Sports (ISYS; will be especially competitive. The position is a 12-month fixed-termappointment that is annually renewable. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. The effective date of appointment will be August 16, 2014.

Duties:

  • Coordinate the development of an online master’s degree program in sport coaching and leadership, including the creation of new courses, administration of existing graduate-level coaching courses, and recruitment of students to enroll in the new program.
  • Advise students in the new program and teach several online courses.
  • Coordinate an annual summer coaching conference tied to the new program.
  • Supervise capstone projects and internships tied to the new program.
  • Coordinate MSU online masters of education degree coaching and sport leadership concentration offerings.
  • Coordinate other ISYS-sponsored noncredit coaching leadership programs, including the National Wrestling Coaches Association Coaching Academy program.
  • Lead evaluation research to assess online coaching program effectiveness.

•Actively contribute to themission and administration of the ISYS.

•Perform service as appropriate to the department, college, university, profession, and community.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have an advanced degree from a kinesiology or equivalent program.The successful candidate must also possess: (a) evidence of significant scholarly background in coaching/sport science, (b) coaching experience, (c) evidence ofexcellence in college-level teaching, and (d) educational technology knowledge and experience.Familiarity with the Desire 2 Learn platform and experience with program evaluation research are highly desirable.
