Annotated bibliography assignment – instructions & resources

This assignment will help you begin to research about your topic and write the literature review for your idea paper. For this assignment you'll need to access the campus library databases and find five (5) articles from a peer-reviewed journals, scholarly magazines, or a full-text conference proceedings about informing your own research.

Go to then the"E-Resources & Databases" section and search either Academic Search Premier, EBSCOHost or ERIC to find your article. You'll need to get used to the database interface as well as figure out how to access the various systems on the library page. The following are some resources to help you with online research:

Below are the guidelines for the annotated bibliography:

  1. At least three (3) of your sources must be primary sources (journals, proceedings, papers, dissertations, and books) and up to two (2) of your sources can be secondary sources (information from respectable web-sites, institutions, experts, authors, magazines, and newspapers).

  5. The citation part of each annotation should be in APA format
  6. All of you should be somewhat familiar with the APA format or possess the APA Manual of Style. If not, this is a good time to start! Hopefully, at least one person in each group can assist with the formatting of citations. You do not all have to be experts, but begin to understand the importance of adhering to the APA format as it will be required for your Masters' projects.
  7. Please use thecriteria listed below to assess your Annotated Bibliography assignment. We will apply the same criteria in scoring them.

Note: scholarly annotations should be more comprehensive (about 150 words or so) than typical short blurbs or web site descriptions. In addition, annotations should be descriptive (we need to know what was studied and how the authors arrived at their conclusions, not just the conclusions themselves) and evaluative (we need to know how appropriate and well-designed the study was).

Annotated bibliography checklist (100 points)

Use the following criteria to assess your Annotated Bibliography assignment. We will apply the same criteriain scoring them.

Assignment contains the following:

1. Research is about or relevant toyour research topic.

2. At least 5 research cited in correct APA style.

3. At least 3 sources are from primary sources.

4. Research appears thorough (across discipline) and is appropriately annotated.Scholarly annotations should be comprehensive (about 150 words or so) and descriptive (we need to know what was studied and how the authors arrived at their conclusions, not just the conclusions themselves) and evaluative (we need to know how appropriate and well-designed thestudy was).

5. Assignment is completed on time.

Scoring

100 points = satisfactorily meets all 5 criteria

80 points = satisfactorily meets 4 of the 5 criteria

60 points = satisfactorily meets 3 of the 5 criteria

40 points = satisfactorily meets 2 of the 5 criteria

20 points = satisfactorily meets 1 of the 5 criteria
