Know all men by these presents that I Caleb Stewart of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by Thomas Davidson of the County and State aforesaid, before the ensealing and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof I the said Caleb Stewart do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell into the said Thomas Davidson his executors administrators and assigns, one negro girl name Harriett about ten years old and one bay horse and now in my possession To Have and To Hold the said property to the said Thomas Davidson his executors, administrators and assigns forever, and I the said Caleb Stewart for myself my heirs, executors and administrators and assigns against me the said Caleb Stewart my executors and administrators and against all and every person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents.

Provided nevertheless that in case the said Caleb Stewart shall pay and satisfy to the said Thomas Davidson or to his executors, administrators or assigns the sum of one hundred dollars current money with interest for the same on or before the first day of January next ensuing, then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said property is mortgaged by me the said Caleb Stewart to secure the said Thomas Davidson the payment of the money aforesaid.

In witness whereof I the said Caleb Stewart have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the 21st day of April Eighteen hundred and thirty four.

on the back of the aforegoing was thus written, to wit:

Maryland, Anne Arundel County, to wit: on this 21st day of April 1834 before me and the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Caleb Stewart and acknowledges the writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made provided.
