Parent Code of Conduct

I will place an emphasis on the fun of participation & keep the emotional & physical well-being of all the children ahead of my personal desire to win.

I will require my child to treat other participants, coaches, fans, and officials with respect without regard to gender, race, religion, culture, or ability.

I will encourage good sportsmanship by giving positive support to all participants, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other event.

I will support and assist this experience however I can… by being a respectful fan, by assisting with the meets, by providing transportation, etc.

I will support coaches and officials by working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
I will refrain from the use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs at all practices, meets, and other events and I will encourage others to do the same.

I will remember that swim team is for the kids & not for the adults & will do my best to make this experience fun for all the children and parents involved.

I will pick up my child promptly after meets and practices so the YMCA staff is not left in a compromising position with my child.

Swimmer Code of Conduct

I will not intentionally hurt or be mean to any participant, coach, or official.

I will pay attention to my coach and give her/him the respect s/he deserves. I will not misbehave or be disruptive during practices or games so that I do not ruin the experience of other children.

I will not argue with officials and will leave any disputes regarding protests to officials and my coach.

I will follow the rules for safety that my coach and the YMCA have established.

I will seek and willingly receive instruction both in the skills of the sport and in proper sporting behavior and good sportsmanship.

I will encourage my parents to set an example of good sportsmanship for my fellow teammates, the other parents, and myself.

In exchange for good and valuable consideration, the adequacy of which is hereby acknowledged, I hereby give the Ankeny Family YMCA, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, or those for whom it is acting, and all persons and corporations acting with its permission or upon its authority, including any team photographer, the absolute right and permission to take, copyright, use, and publish photographs in any and all media, of or concerning (swimmer’s name/list all)______, in whole, in part, or in composite, for purposes of YMCA art, advertising, education, or promotion, or for any other purpose consistent with the YMCA mission.

I agree that the photograph becomes the exclusive property of the Ankeny Family YMCA, and I waive all rights thereto. I waive all rights to inspect and/or approve any printed matter that may be used in conjunction with the photograph and the use to which it may be applied.

New Swimmer Buddy Program

RETURNING/PREVIOUS AQUAHAWK SWIMMERS

Help new swimmers by becoming a MENTOR in our New Swimmer Buddy Program! Returning swimmers their families have the chance to help new swimmers feel a part of the team!

Swimmer responsibilities include:

Introduce your new swimmer friend to other swimmers your age.

Be a familiar face at practices, meets and team parties/events.

Help answer any questions the new swimmer may have.

Parent responsibilities include:

Being available to answer simple questions about meets and practices.

Sharing an email address and phone number to act as a contact.

Being a familiar face to welcome new swim team families.

This program does not replace the new swimmer parent meeting and you can always point the new families to the coaches for answers. This program is simply to help new families feel a part of the team and help those new to swimming understand how the swim team works.

NEW SWIMMERS

Becoming a part of a new team can seem a little scary. There are so many new faces and things to learn! The Ankeny Aquahawks want you to feel welcomed to the team with our NEW SWIMMER BUDDY PROGRAM!

Swimmer benefits include:

Being introduced to a returning swimmer your age who will introduce you to others in your age group.

Having a familiar face at practices, meets and team parties/events.

Having someone to help answer questions many new swimmers have.

Parent benefits include:

Meet returning swim parents who will become a familiar face at practices, meets and parties.

Returning parents will help introduce you to other swim families.

Returning parents are willing to share email and phone numbers and can help answer many questions you may have.

This program will be offered in addition to a NEW SWIMMER PARENT MEETING which is held at the start of the season. Swimmer and parent volunteers are excited to welcome you to the team, but please keep in mind that some questions may need to be directed to the coaches.
