Dear Parents,
As you all may not be aware, Thomas Jefferson Elementary Middle School is working towards our Evaluation visit for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) World School. The IB PYP is a curriculum framework designed for students in grades PreK -5th. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the outside world. The PYP aims to create a transdisciplinary curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners.
What is so special about the IB PYP programme?
· IB programmes are recognized around the world and are identified as best practice in teaching and learning techniques.
· The curriculum and pedagogy [method and practice of teaching] of IB programmes focus on international perspectives of learning and teaching, while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.
· The core components of IB programmes encourage students to participate in creative and service-oriented activities, while at the same time emphasizing the importance of reflection on a personal and academic level.
We are running these workshops for parents interested in gaining a deeper understanding about their child’s learning and the IB PYP. The aims of the sessions are to clarify the essential elements of the PYP, provide examples of student inquiry and to answer any questions you may have about the IB PYP.
We hope that many parents will attend the workshops and take this opportunity to learn about the quality of the PYP and the benefits an IB education can provide for your child.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
Mrs. Stokes-Graham,
IB PYP Coordinator
