Ancestors Claimed by Members of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina since 1885

The Huguenot Society of South Carolina accepts as members descendants of French Protestants(Huguenots) prior to 1787. In some instances, descendants of Walloons and Swiss Protestants have also been accepted.

The following list gives the names of people claimed as Huguenot ancestors by members of this Society since it began in 1885. This list does not represent all Huguenot ancestors and some names on the list are now known not to have been Huguenot. These names cannot be used as ancestors unless they are currently approved by the Society. Research is on-going and names will be corrected or added as new information is found. Please notify the Huguenot Society of South Carolina if you have questions or corrections for this list.

Applicants for membership in the Huguenot Society of South Carolina are reminded that the appearance of an ancestor’s name on this list does not guarantee membership in the Society, nor does the fact that a family member is or was a member of the Society guarantee the same. Documentation for the lineage of all new members is required.

A copy of the application form and information sheets on completing the form are available on this website. Copies of documentation in the files of the Society can be requested by completing the Research Request form which is also on this website. The Society welcomes copies of documented sources which will help verify information and provide a more accurate list of the names of Huguenot ancestors.

NOTE:Names which appear in bold on the list are those used by current members of the Society. Names marked with + are those for whom some documentation is available for some descendants of that ancestor. Names followed by * are being researched to determine their status as legitimate ancestors.Huguenot ancestors and documentation to prove they were French Protestants is needed. Women claimed as an ancestor are listed under their maiden names with their married names in parentheses.
