Dear Parents,

We are going on a field trip! Our trip is planned for Friday, May 6th. We will travel on the SAM Shortline in climate controlled, 1949 vintage train cars and enjoy stops along the route. Students will learn about the hometown of Jimmy Carter, in Plains, GA. Students will also visit Carter’s boyhood farm and learn about how farms work and what it takes to keep them going. In Plains, students will be able to shop in the stores and learn more about the town’s history. The cost of this trip is $14.00 per student. We will depart the school PROMPTLY at 7:00 a.m. and will return at approximately 6:45 pm. Be sure you have arrangements to drop your child off early and pick your child up later on that day, if you plan for your child to attend. Having your child at school on time will be imperative to the organization of our trip. We cannot wait for any late arrivals. Sack lunches from the cafeteria will be provided, however your child may choose to bring his or her own lunch or purchase food from the train commissary while we are riding along. There are also a few restaurants, an icecream shop, & souvenir shops when we are in Plains that you and your child may enjoy visiting.

We would like for any parent interested to join us on this trip as a chaperone. Admission costs for chaperones will be $28.00. Chaperones will need to bring their own lunch that will not require refrigerating or heating. Adults may choose to ride the bus or take a separate vehicle. Students must ride the bus TO the train, but may be signed out by their parent or by approved designated person to return home in a personal vehicle.

Anapproximate itinerary of our day is as follows:

7:00 a.m. :Leave Cross Creek Elementary School toward Georgia Veterans State Park

10:00 a.m.:Board the train at Georgia Veterans State Park/Address: 2459 U.S. 280, Cordele, GA 31015
