Key Responsibilities:

Moody’s State Rating Team is part of Moody’s Public Finance Group and is responsible for rating securities issued by all US state and state-related public finance issuers based in the United States and its commonwealths and territories, as well as US public transit issuers.

This is an exciting and challenging role where you will be responsible for providing insightful credit analysis, regularly publishing research on a range of state credit-related topics, and ensuring rating accuracy,. This New York-based opportunity involves developing an in-depth knowledge of the assigned sectors, working with other lines of business and writing forward-looking analytic research. As part of the rating process you will interact with investors, intermediaries, and issuers.

•Conduct initial and on-going credit analysis on a dedicated portfolio of issuers; principally states, state-related issuers and entities, and public mass transit issuers

•Perform and present in-depth fundamental credit analysis on a regular basis to rating committees and other internal analytical meetings to assign and maintain credit ratings.

•Research and write for publication,and present to a high quality standard on credit trends / opinions / topical issues,

•Maintain relationships with high-profile issuer clients, investors and intermediaries, with frequent interaction with investors and intermediaries.

Qualifications

•Minimum four years of credit analysis or related experience, particularly in the public finance sector.

  • Solid understanding of financial reporting of states or other governmental entities, and experience in reviewing and interpreting them
  • Strong knowledge of the municipal debt markets and an understanding of the key issues affecting these markets would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong quantitative aptitude and proven analytical skills.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good IT competency skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
