Course Description and Requirements: This seminar course will offer practice possibilities and practical instructions for students whose aim is to develop/improve their listening skills and to prepare for the EYE. Accordingly, text types covered will include interviews, news broadcasts, talk shows, reports, short stories related by individual narrators, excerpts from longer texts (books on tape, soundtracks of video recordings, etc.), and language book exercises. The skills to be tested and, as a result, advanced will comprise listening for gist, listening for specific information, inferring speakers’ attitude and/or opinion, and focusing on relevant and appropriate information. The pool of task types will consist of gap-filling, guided note-taking, short answer questions, multiple choice and fill-in-the-grid/table exercises. The practice material will be presented to the students in the form of handouts, transparencies on OHP, and electronic images projected from think-pad pages. The results of midterm/end-term tests and class participation will be considered for the final grade.
