An Educational Program for Recently Separated or Divorced Parents in Johnson County
SOLID GROUND is a voluntary or court ordered educational experience for newly separated, divorced, or never married parents who are raising children in two homes.
SOLID GROUND helps parents learn what further court involvement means for their families and the effect of the adversarial process on their children.
SOLID GROUND helps parents learn about alternatives to litigation such as mediation, family counseling, and developing an effective co-parenting relationship.
SOLID GROUNDteaches skills for an effective and respectful cooperative parenting relationship. This program models an accepting and child-focused mindset, effective communication strategies and skills for your co-parenting relationship, planning tools, and much more.
SOLID GROUND is once a quarterand you must attend both sessions in the same month.Class isheldthe first and third Wednesdays of each monthfrom 5:15 pm until 7:15 pm at Johnson County Court Services.There is a fee of $75 per parent which includes materials. The next classes are being held:

SOLID GROUND helps parents begin their cooperative parenting relationship with helpful information and a child-focused mindset.Ideal for newly separated or divorced parents, this program will help families start a healthier co-parenting relationship with raising children in two homes.
The first session, “Kids, Conflict & Court” covers two basic topics: 1) conflict hurts kids 2) the courts (litigation) are rarely the best resource to help.Each parent needs a realistic look at what lies ahead if they still do want and insist upon court involvement.
The second session “Problem Solving Skills & Strategies for Separated Parents” covers two other basic topics: 1) developing a business relationship as parents, 2) problem solving and communication skills. The second session helps parents prepare for the mediation process as a logical next step.
The cost is $75.00 per person and must be paid to the District Court Trustee. If you have not been court ordered to attend, you must pay at Court Services onthe first night of class.Any questions regarding this matter can be answered by your attorney, the Judge’s office in your case, or the Trustee’s office (913) 715-3600.
Please be aware that if you are late, you will have to re-take the class. To respect everyone we will begin on time and no one will be allowed in after class begins.
