Kapolei Library Will Present January 2015 Events

Kapolei Public Library will offer free Saturday afternoon programs in January 2015:

  • January 10, 1 p.m. – “The Many Benefits of Collaborative Law,”Adult Fiction Section (2nd Floor). Attorneys Nolan Yogi and Lisa Jacobs will discuss how collaborative law developed more than 20 years ago as a form of alternative dispute resolution and why it is growing in popularity nationwide. Collaborative law is used in family law practice and encourages people to engage in problem solving rather than using adversarial techniques to find solutions to conflicts. This 45-minute program is suitable for ages 18 and older.
  • January 17, 1 p.m. – “Meet Author Susan Scott,”Main Lobby. Scott will discuss her newest book “Call Me Captain: A Memoir of a Woman at Sea”in which she sails her 37-foot sailboat to Palmyra. She will also present a slide show about her work as a volunteer biologist in spectacular but isolated Palmyra Atoll. Learn how Scott rescues baby sea turtles, bands seabirds, and corrals 10-pound coconut crabs that look like Godzillas with knife-blade claws! Scott, the “Ocean Watch” columnist for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, is also the author or co-author of six books about nature in Hawaii. The Friends of the Library Kapolei is sponsoring this 45-minute program for ages 12 and older.

  • January 24 – Two Pet-related programs in Main Lobby: 1 p.m. – “Pet Friendly Tips.” Dr. Yoko Haneda, a veterinarian of a local pet hospital, will share tips on how to take care of a new pet. Dr. Haneda will also provide advice on how to select a healthy pet. At 1:30 p.m. – “Pets as Service Animals.” Monica Roberts, a Service Animal Advocate, will discuss working with animals as companions and the service behaviors that can be trained to assist people on multiple levels. Roberts will share information about Service Dogs, Emotional Support Dogs, and Therapy Dogs, and the steps required to obtain these certifications. The Friends of the Library Kapolei is sponsoring these programs for ages 12 and older.
