AMITY CHILD-UGANDA
BACKGROUND
Amity Child-Uganda was founded by Danson N Tushabe at an age of 22 while still a University student in 2011. He was inspired by the fact that though he could not afford to pay Tuition fees for his university education, someone had to sponsor him to do his Bachelors degree at University, without this sponsorship, he would not have graduated. The fact that someone across the globe cared for him even when they did not know him personally inspired him to go back to the community and give a hand of hope to other underprivileged children who otherwise would not be able to be in school and those who did not get a chance to be sponsored like him. And as part of appreciating God’s faithfulness in his Academic journey, he decided that he should also be a blessing to other needy children. Therefore; together with his colleagues formed an NGO; Amity Child-Uganda in Dec 2011 with the overall objective of providing affordable & age appropriate education to OVCs.
ABOUT AMITY CHILD-UGANDA
In Dec 2011, ACU was established & registered as a not-for-profit organization (Reg No. S. 5814/9794) with the purpose of helping orphans & vulnerable children in Uganda to attain education and basic needs
Education is, we believe, the most lasting and effective way we can help children and their families to escape from the cycle of poverty. It also represents a double investment – an investment in the children but also an investment in the future of Uganda. It will enhance their social standing, economic independence and empower their decision making. Thus they will be able to contribute more in educating the next generation.
We targets the most vulnerable communities specifically OVC aged 0 – 18 years and their caregivers. These include orphans, child headed households, chronically ill and elderly households with young children and OVC without alternative family care.
At the heart of our organization is a board of dedicated and committed individuals who have, since the beginning, given their time, resources and networks to the cause of ACU. Without their tireless and continuous devotion ACU would never have reached the heights it finds itself at today

WHAT WE DO
1. Study bursaries
· We lobby for support from schools to absorb vulnerable & needy children at subsidized costs.
· Networking with schools and institutions with half bursary opportunities
The Half Bursary programme operates primarily in slums & rural areas in Uganda where the poor make up a bigger percentage of the population and where children have little access to education due to poverty and a lack of value for education.
It runs from Pre-primary through University levels. Bursaries normally cover 50% of school/Tuition fees which makes it easier for the beneficiaries to afford education. Since December 2011, 911 students have benefited from this scheme. 40% of these students are orphans and from poor families, who could not afford their education.
