American Red Cross-Greater Waupaca Area

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers

and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles

of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of

disaster and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Volunteer Opportunities that make a Difference:

Receptionist – Answer phones, sign out Medical Equipment, assist with bulk mailings, meet and greet visitors, and perform other general office duties. Set your own hours.

Computer Operator – Data entry, word processing, produce records & reports for the office. (Computer training available if necessary) Schedule is flexible.

Health & Safety Instructors – Teach others vital life-saving skills such as First Aid, CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillation), Babysitting, Sport Safety Training, Family Caregiving, assist with CNA testing & Other Red Cross Health & Safety Courses.

First Aid Station Volunteer –Provide immediate first aid care at community events such as EAA, Strawberry Fest, Fall-o-Rama, Country USA, Sawdust Days, and Waupaca County Fair.

Disaster Relief Volunteer – Provide disaster relief for victims of natural and man-made disasters throughout the local community. (Opportunities for National Relief optional)

Blood Drive Volunteers – Greet & register donors, work in canteen area, assist with loading and unloading supplies, etc.

Marketing/Public Relations – Promote and raise public awareness of Red Cross services through marketing campaigns and committee meetings.

Packer Game Day Volunteers – work with other Red Cross volunteers managing a concession stand at Lambeau Field. Work as a grill / deep fryer / or steamer cook, cashier or runner, assist with inventory and wrapping even bring a friend and work together.

Medical Equipment Program – assist with making sure hosp. Beds, wheelchairs, crutches, commodes, and other medical equipment is in working order, cleaned sufficiently, and stored properly for next renter. Cost of rental is $15.00 for 3 months.

Special Event Volunteer –Assist with organizing and managing 1 of 3 special events. Holiday Serendipity (craft show held opening day of deer hunting), Evening in Red (Our Premier Event includes dinner, dancing, auctions, & raffles). Also includes our Community Resource Manual (booklet designed to increase awareness of activities/programs available).

Creative Caring Hearts is a not-for-profit charity (tax-exempt 501©(3), serving local babies and their families by providing layettes of homemade items and other supplies to the babies. These items, which include quilts, afghans and clothing, are given to the maternity staff of the local hospitals for distribution to the babies and their families.

Creative Caring Hearts Core Beliefs

  • All babies deserve a happy, healthy start in life. Creative Caring Hearts can enhance that happy start with much-needed clothes and supplies.
  • The baby items will be well made both in the use of good fabric and in the quality

of construction.

  • The items will be attractive and appealing, appropriate for a newborn.
  • We believe education begins at birth so we always include an infants’ book with every a layette.

Who are the volunteers of Creative Caring Hearts?

Volunteers of Creative Caring Hearts range in age from girls in Brownie troops to 80+. Their talents may lie in sewing, knitting, crocheting or in creative garage sale shopping or fundraising. At this time there are approximately 30 volunteers from Waupaca, Appleton, Neenah, Oshkosh, Clintonville, Hortonville, Fremont and Fairchild and even a couple of talented volunteers from Florida and Massachusetts.

Friends of the Clintonville Public Library

This 501(3)(c) organization is interested in maintaining an association of persons interested in libraries, stimulating the use of the library’s resources and services, and supporting and cooperating with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community.

Volunteer opportunities are available for those who wish to get more involved in library service to the area. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Art Fair – publicity, set-up, day-of-the-show work
  • Book Displays-prepare and set up monthly book displays for children or adults
  • Bulletin Boards-prepare and set up bulletin board displays in the Children’s Area
  • Check dvds for damage-may be done at home.
  • City-wide Book Events-planning, publicity, etc.
  • Coordinate Display Case Exhibits-contact people and help set up displays
  • Computer maintenance-cleaning and basic maintenance tasks on a monthly basis
  • Edit Newsletter-print and online versions
  • Home delivery-take library materials to people who are unable to come into the library
  • Library Programs-daytime or evenings, help with refreshments and supervision
  • Maintain scrapbook-historical record of Friends activities
  • Obituary index-index names from old newspapers on microfilm at the library
  • Parades-float building, driving vehicles, etc.
  • Straighten shelves-pick a section of the library and check that the books are in order on the shelves on a monthly basis
  • Used book sales-set up and take down, day-of-the-sale work

The HutchinsonHouseMuseum

Waupaca, Wisconsin

The Hutchinson House is a well-preserved example of New England style architecture and is one of the oldest wood-frame structures built in the city of Waupaca. The house was built by Chester and Susannah Hutchinson in 1854 and was moved to SouthPark and restored by the Waupaca Historical Society in 1956. Since 1957, the Hutchinson House has been open as a public museum where Historical Interpreters relate stories and information about the Victorian Era with the use of local artifacts.

The HutchinsonHouseMuseum is owned and operated by the Waupaca Historical Society and is open for tours during weekends in the summer and by appointment.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Museum Guide:

Give tours of the historic Hutchinson House and relate information about the Hutchinson Family and the Victorian Era. Receive admission fees and keep attendance records. Perform light dusting and watering of outside flower gardens as time permits. Orientation and training provided for new volunteers. Flexible schedule. 1 or 2 weekend days per month. New volunteers needed.

Hutchinson House Handyman:

Perform misc. minor repairs, including repair of wood porches and picket fence, paint scrapping, and painting. Flexible schedule. Position vacant – Volunteer needed!

Crafters/Home Arts:

Volunteers needed to share skills and talents and give demonstrations about needlepoint, spinning, woodcarving, whittling, candlemaking, rug hooking, rosemaling, tatting, lace making, or quilting, during the Fall-O-Rama Festival at the HutchinsonHouseMuseum. Fall-O-Rama is a one-day event that is held each September.

The mission of the New LondonPublicMuseum is to maintain a collection of items, which promotes a greater understanding and appreciation for the history of the New London area, and to include items, which interpret the world’s cultural and natural heritage and the community’s association with them.

Training and support provided. Volunteer opportunities are flexible.

Marketing – Assist in promoting and raising public awareness of museum’s exhibits and programs. Examples include designing posters, invitations, or advertisements; contacting the media; poster distribution; and/or writing public service announcements.

Education (Teacher/Teachers Aide)– Instruct youth art classes and/or provide outreach to schools and service organizations.

Clerical – Type, input data into computer, assist with bulk mailing, organize artifacts, and/or other light behind the scenes duties.

From artists and biologists to accountants and educators, everyone’s skills are important to NEWLT’s mission. Have an interesting and rewarding volunteer experience by participating in one of the following (or call NEWLT with other ideas):

Outreach/Education – Lead field trips, public speaking about NEWLT, volunteer training, find new members, graphic design of materials, photography for events, write newsletter articles and press releases

Land Acquisition – Lead or assist on land conservation projects, photography of land projects, environmental site assessments on properties, help develop conservation buyer network

Land Stewardship – Monitor properties, maintain landowner relationships, coordinate, lead or participate in work parties for properties needing clean-up, invasive species control, signs, etc.

Fundraising – Help with membership drives, special events, grant writing, annual fundraising campaign

Friends of the Little Wolf Headwaters – Based in WaupacaCounty, the Friends promote good land stewardship through local property tours and educational sessions that are open to the public, a land registry program, and stream monitoring and training. Reading – Readers are needed for children’s story hour, especially during the summer.

Writing – The library is seeking volunteers to write a newsletter to be used in print and/or web format.

Leading – Help is needed in either designing or leading craft activities for children or adults.

Artistic – Volunteers are needed for decorating the children’s area and/or creating displays.

Office – The library is seeking volunteers to shelve materials, assist in book processing, and/or assisting patrons with computer catalogs.

Special event – Assistance is sought for special events such as fish boil fundraiser, summer performers, and summer programs. Duties may include activities such as creating and/or distributing posters, writing press releases, and/or assisting in set-up or clean-up.

Purpose Statement: A volunteer supplements, not replaces, WCDHHS staff. The volunteer is a mature individual who has the desire to provide service to others without monetary gain.
The Mission State for WCDHHS-Community Division is to respectfully advocate and provide services for individuals by enabling them to remain safely at home or in the least restrictive environment while maintaining or improving their quality of life.

Community Care Division Services-Deliver noon meals to the homebound-Work at the Nutrition Sites as helpers-Transport elderly to nutrition centers-

Peer Companion-Person who works 1:1 with adults-
Guardians, Nutrition Site Sunshine Chairman-Sends cards to homebound on birthdays-holidays-etc.
Telephone Reassurance Caller-this person calls shut-ins daily to check on their well-being
Health Services- Register for immunization/flu clinic throughout Waupaca County.

Blood Pressure Screener at the Nutrition Sites-
Transportation- Transports people for medical and nutritional reasons-they are reimbursed mileage.
Waupaca County Industries- Workshop helper-Community Friend-Clerical help when needed.
WCDHHS Clerical Volunteers- Provide staff while assisting the program coordinators with light typing, filing, mailings stamping, and stapling.
Community Service-Donate professional skills-Help with community functions such as Make a Difference Day. Eligibility Requirements: People of liability age (18 yrs and older). If you are not of liability age, parents or guardians must sign a permission statement. Some of the volunteer programs provide/need training before actively becoming a volunteer.

WAUPACA COUNTY 4-H

“4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.”

Waupaca County Extension 4-H is a volunteer-led organization where youth and adults learn about projects, meet new friends, develop life skills, and have fun. The four H’s stand for Head-Heart-Hands-Health, and signify the development of the whole person. The purpose of 4-H is to provide real-life experiences for youth through practical, experiential, learn-by-doing, educational programs and to provide opportunities for adults to work with youth in their development.

Youth and adult activities or projects are centered around the needs and interests of boys and girls, rural and urban, grades kindergarten through high school.

Waupaca County 4-H Mission is to develop, guide, educate, and support 4-H youth and leaders within Waupaca County

Volunteers* are the key to providing 4-H programs. Capable, interested adult and youth volunteers are always needed to lead clubs and to assist with 4-H projects and activities.

Project leaders teach members within a specific project area or skill such as photography, clothing, gardening, rabbits, dairy, etc.

Activity leaders are responsible for coordinating or working with members on areas such as recreation, community service, fundraising, music and drama performances and more.

Club Organizational leaders provide overall club leadership and help the club get organized and coordinate meetings.

Other volunteer opportunities include helping in various ways at the County Fair or leading a special interest session at 4-H Super Saturday project day.

*All volunteers who work directly with youth complete a youth protection process including an orientation and background check. 4-H volunteers are supported by professional staff; including county 4-H educators who are faculty and academic staff members of the University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension.

Waupaca Area Food Bank

The Waupaca Area Food Bank is a non profit food pantry whose mission is to help people in the Waupaca School District who have a need for food. Recipients may use the food pantry one time per month.

The Waupaca Area Food Bank is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 -11:00 a.m.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Food Bank Volunteer: Staff the food bank from 8:45 to 11:00 a.m. one or more times per month. Must be able to walk a full flight of stairs.

Bakery Pick-up Volunteer: Pick up bakery at Piggly Wiggly and Pick N Save at 8:00 a.m. and deliver to the food bank. (Most needed volunteer at this time.)

Site Support Volunteer: Assist in bringing food from one room to another, sort and shelve food items.

Grocery Pickup Volunteer: Pick up ordered food from grocery store and deliver it to the food bank.

Government Truck Volunteer: One time per month, unloading a semi and taking the food downstairs.

Occasional Volunteer: Help with special food drives, taking the food downstairs and shelving it. Clean and/or dust shelves and food bank room.
