Being a firefighter: the pros and cons

Video Transcript

"I think there's more pros to the fire department job as a fire fighter. I mean, you come to a station. The way we work, we work forty-eight hour shift, so you get two days on, you get four days off. In those four days off, you can do whatever you want, you're free. But in those two days, you come to the station. You have a bed to sleep in. You cook, you clean, it's just like being at home, but you're at work. I would say that's one of the pros. Helping people, I mean, everyday you get to go out and do something for somebody. And I think that's a big plus. Not every day do you get to go and help an old lady cross the street. I think another pro is...I mean you work with great guys. They're fun, you dink around, you have a blast. But when it comes down to a situation where you need to be serious, I mean, you can't beat it. These guys are awesome. You're able to count on each other, and you know that they got your back. You get to train every day, you get to have a blast together. And there's really no way I can say that there's cons to this job. The only cons I can really think about right now off the top of my head about firefighting is, you get a call in the middle of the night, you're awake at, you know, three, four in the morning. Sometimes you get calls all night long and you don't sleep. Other cons are..I mean, we go on calls where people are really hurt. You see things that you maybe don't want to see, but you've gotta see 'em, you've gotta take care of 'em. You see things that stick out in your mind for weeks on end, but that's something that you gotta deal with, you gotta learn how to cope with. But I would say that's probably the biggest con, is having to see people in distress and hurt."

Summary:

The pros of being a firefighter include being able to help people, while the cons include witnessing people getting hurt.

P1: Dear audience, we are eager to present you our project. It is about a job of a firefighter. First, you will have a chance to watch an amazing video.

Video “The Pros and Cons of Being a Firefighter”.

P2: You have already heard about pros and cons of the job. Now, we will tell you some details about this profession.

What do the fireman of nowadays do?

Every year, fires take many lives and destroy a lot of property. Fire fighters help protect people and property. They put out fires. They also save people who are trapped in burning buildings. They resque them from all types of accidents and disasters. Fire fighters also help prevent fires and accidents and promote public fire safety.

Some firemen work at airports or in factories. Others work in forests or rural areas. Although this job is interesting and exciting, it is also dangerous and exhausting. It requires physical fitness.

P3: Firemen should have excellent communication skills and be able to speak clearly and listen well. They must be able to get along well with others because they work and live together. On the one hand, the job of a firefighter is very rewarding and gratifying when you can help people in their times of need. What is more, this job is well-paid, a uniform is given and you have a life insurance.

On the other hand, this job is very stressful and you sometime witness the destruction of property and people’s death.

P4: To illustrate the firefighter’s job in our city, we found some pictures with the fire in Lutsk central department store. It was on the fourth of December and 40 professionals and 9 vehicles had been putting out the fire for four hours.

In conclusion, we must also admit that some students of our lyceum go in for fire and rescue sports and successfully take part in many competitions winning the prizes.

This year our students have already visited local fire department twice and learnt a lot about their work and equipment.

Being a policeman: the pros and cons

"Some of the better, the finer parts of this job, the pros part of it, is you start a case and you walk through and you what limited information you have you take it from the start to the finish and you get an arrest. You get the property back for the person or you solve the crime, that's a big pro and that makes it fun, able to help out someone. And try to clean up the streets the best you can. So that's a huge plus and we can help people all the time whether it's find missing children that are lost. And help out families that way, whatever we do that's usually a plus. Some of the cons on the job are when we go to a traffic accident and you see people hurt things like that. That's something that's tough or you see, we see things that the most people don't see and so that, that sometimes can be tough. On the family when you see people going through tough times and going through a bad situation, some of these people through my career is you see them, they have everything going for them in life and then you see them they get on drugs and they lose everything. They lose their job, they lose their family all to drugs and then they are out on the streets and that's something that sad but it's something that, that's out there. And as a police officer you can help those people by arresting them or put them in jail and then maybe that's what wakes them up and they realize you know what, I messed up and I need to change my life and so that's, that can be another, one of the pros on this job. Also some of the pros and cons, depending is we're and every two months we change our schedule. So one of the pros is that we have different days off. Which can also be a con if you want to take a vacation and all your days are on a certain day and that's when you want to do stuff then that can be a bad thing. But it also can be a good thing because when everybody else is off, you're working and you can go do something different in the middle of the week and it will be less crowded. So there's pros and cons, it's a fun career and so long as your willing to have a shift changes and work different shifts and it's on."

Summary:

A police officer career includes the typical pros and cons that come from police work.
