Testimonials

“ I purchased a TVS scooty with AMCO YUASA type YB5LB having its Sl. No. DHF1017478 in July 2001, which has been replaced only on the 9th January 2008. In this connection, I would like to mention here that the life of the battery lasted for more than 6 ½ years, which is unbelievable.

I express my sincere thanks to the Company for the excellent type of battery they manufacture keeping in view the utmost satisfaction of the customers for the value. I use only AMCO battery also for my four wheeler.”

Thanks, S.D. Patnaik

“ I am based in Bhopal and am a proud owner of a Yamaha RX 100 motorcycle that I purchased in January 1996. Recently, the battery installed in my bike went dead and when I opened the battery case I saw that an Amco Yuasa battery was installed in my bike. I also realised that the battery had lasted all of 8.5 years (8 years, 6 moths) without needing a single recharging. I used to only top it up with distilled water and that was good enough to keep the battery going. I was wondering if you would need that battery as it can be used to gain some great publicity for a great product. How about making an advertisement based on the longest lasting?? Motorcycle battery I have ever heard of?”
Thanking You, Rahul Noronha

“I wish to inform you that I had purchased a Maruti Van (Omni) from M/s R.N.S. Motors, Yeshwantpur during October 1999 fitted with AMCO Battery No. NS40-062183-GMH9. I wish to mention that the battery is still performing well and I have NOT got it charged ever since it was fitted in the Vehicle and this is being charged by the vehicle system itself. I am having the battery regularly checked-up once in a month through an EXIDE dealer on Millers Road.
The above is for your information and record. Here I take this opportunity to compliment you on your excellent product.”

Thanking you, V.K. Sagar

“Its been a great pleasure writing to you about your wonderful production (Batteries). To begin with, I had purchased a Kinetic Honda on 30th August 1999. I had a battery of your Company. I had absolutely no problem with it for more than three years. After that, I purchased another bike and neglected the early one i.e. hardly used it. The battery had no power in it. I never bothered about it.

The mechanic told me to change the battery. But, I never did so because I don't use this bike often. Of late, I noticed that the battery is not fully dead even after such a long period. It still has some life in it like the signal light works, the beeper works, the brake light works. I mean to say that when the Engine is not running.

It’s really astonishing. I really appreciate the workmanship of your product. I would like to mention the serial number of this battery. It is 055910 GMH9.”

Thanking you, Irfan Mandlik

“I have purchased a Maruti Car in December 1997 with AMCO battery and I was able to use the same for five years till December 2002. I am happy to note that the performance of the battery has been excellent and the life given far exceeds the batteries of this brand. I hope the standard of the battery will be maintained so that it will get more life. I am glad to inform you that I have replaced the battery with AMCO battery and hope and wish that it will also give me life for another five years.”

Thanking you, E. Kurien Mathew

Tips for long lasting batteries

How to Keep Your Car Battery Like New?

Why does a car battery hold up perfectly well during the summer and poop out in the winter, just when you need it most? This can happen for two different reasons.

1) The oil in the crank case is stiffer in cold weather than in warm, and the starting motor has a harder job ploughing through it.

2) The output or effectiveness of a storage battery falls off markedly as the temperature drops. In other words, when the engine needs the most starting energy, the battery is least capable of providing it!

There is a simple solution to this nuisance:

Check the battery frequently with the arrival of cold weather, and give it an overnight charge with a charger occasionally to keep it to full strength. The more frequently you stop and start the engine, and the less you use the car in the winter, the less chance does the battery have to accumulate a good charge from the charging generator, which works only when the engine runs.
A test on a storage battery with a voltmeter doesn't mean very much.

The only reliable test is made with a hydrometer. This is a syringe-like glass gadget with a squeeze bulb at one end; inside the glass is a shot-weighted float. To use it, you merely unscrew each cap of the battery in turn and suck up about half a syringe full of acid. The weight of the acid compared to that of water (its "specific gravity") is a direct indication of the state of charge.
A battery charger is a source of low-voltage direct current. It consists usually of a step-down transformer that reduces the 115-volt AC line to about 7 or 15 volts (for three- and six-cell batteries, respectively) after passing it through a rectifier that changes the AC to DC. Dual-voltage chargers are now common, to accommodate both types of batteries.

Car vibration can loosen battery leads and sometimes make them jump off; inspect, clean, tighten. Several times a year, remove the connector lugs from battery and clean terminals with sandpaper.
Wipe battery often with cloth dampened with water; check center caps of the battery for fit. To minimize corrosion around terminals, caused by sulphuric acid vapor from cells, coat with Vaseline.
Ensure these few tips and your battery will be as good as new:

  • Battery terminals are clean and that there is no sulphur formation.
  • The battery is always be tightly bound to the battery-tray, to prevent spillage and damage.
  • Battery cables are properly connected.
  • Generator drive belt is sound and correctly adjusted.

DO’S & DON’TS

Keep battery container sides and top surfaces always clean and neat / Don’t top up with ordinary tap water, well water or rain water because all has excess minerals will affect battery performance.
Always top up with distilled water or de-mineralized water (IS1069) / Topping up above the maximum marking level will leads to overflow which will create corrosion to metal parts in your vehicle and weaken the electrolyte strength and battery may fail prematurely
Electrolyte level to be maintained between the Maximum and Minimum markings on the battery container.
Keep the Battery terminals clean and free from accumulation of dust / Never ADD Acid
Apply petroleum jelly or Vaseline on to the terminals and Bolt and Nuts to avoid corrosion / Never apply grease to terminals because it has lot of minerals and is flammable
Always use proper Ampere Hour battery and suitable dimensions recommended by the OEM’s / Don’t short the terminals of the battery for checking whether battery is good or bad.
Electrical gadgets should be fixed as per the OEM’s recommendation. / Rust or foreign particles deposits in the terminal will lead to voltage/current drop
Check the vehicle RR unit/alternator output within the specified limit voltage range 14.2 to 14.4 Volts / Never fix under Ampere Hour / Higher Ampere Hour battery than recommended by the specified OEM’s
Keep the battery cradle in your vehicle clean and free from rust and corrosion and ensure that the battery fixed firmly on to the cradle. / Extra Electrical Fitments other than OEM specified leads to premature failure of your battery.
If Rectifier Regulator unit/Alternator output is beyond the specified limit than recommended will create frequent topping up to distilled or de mineralized water and neglected topping up leads to battery premature failure.
Vent plugs holes should be free from dust blocking of vent hole leads to accumulation of hydrogen gas which lead to bursting of battery / Improper fitment or loose fitment of battery on the battery compartment or cradle leads to battery damage.
Use proper tools while fixing and removing battery. / Never Hammer battery terminals while fixing battery cables.

INITIAL FILLING PROCEDURE

  • Remove the tape provided on the covering vent hole on the vent plugs
  • Remove the vent plugs and store them safely
  • Apply Petroleum Jelly on the terminals
  • Fill the dilute sulphuric acid (should confirm to IS 266) of 1.240 +or-0.005 @27 degree Celsius specific gravity.
  • Allow the battery to cool for 30 minutes
  • Check the level and restore the level to the maximum mark with diluted sulphuric acid initially used.
  • Ensure positive and negative terminals are connected properly to the corresponding charger terminals to avoid reverse charging
  • Select proper voltage and specified current for charging as given in the table.
  • Ensure the connections are tight before switching on the charger.
  • Continue charging at the specified rate approximately 8-10 hours till all the cells are gassing freely and voltage remains constant for 3 consecutive hourly readings.
  • Do not allow the battery temperature to exceed 50 degree Celsius during charging. If it exceeds 50 degree Celsius, stop charging and allow the battery to cool to room temperature.
  • Confirm specific gravity are uniform in all cells with in the range of 1.230 to 1.240 at 27 degree Celsius.
  • Switch OFF the charger, disconnect the charging cables and allow the batteries to cool to room temperature.
  • Check for the electrolyte level if the level is below the minimum level top up with Distilled water (should confirm to IS 1069) up to maximum level and charge the battery for an hour.
  • Keep away naked flamed, lighted cigarette from the charging area because it may cause explosion charging room should be well ventilated.
  • Place the vent plugs back in position by using proper tools.
  • Clean the battery with wet cloth to remove the acid strains and wipe with a dry cloth.
  • Apply petroleum jelly on the terminals.
