Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk 2016

Information Sheet

Hello and a warm welcome to the Alzheimer Scotland 2016 Memory Walk!

The idea behind this event is for families to come together and make memories with their loved ones, while raising funds to support the work of Alzheimer Scotland. We do hope you enjoy your day in the beautiful grounds of Strathclyde Country Park

Please take a moment to read over the important information below.

Registration Process

Before beginning your walk, all participants should make their way directly to the registration point to let us know you have arrived. Once you have been registered please feel free to enjoy the day’s entertainment before the walk starts at 11.45am.

In our marquee, there will be a small range of kid’s activities happening and our staff and volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate some of these for you! There will be the opportunity to enter into some competitions with some prizes to be won! You can also add to our Memory Walls by sticking up photos and writing messages to loved ones.

Signing Out

The Memory Walk will finish back at the Marquee where it first started. In order to let us know you have returned from your walk safely, it is essential that all participants sign out. There will be Alzheimer Scotland staff present at the finishing point of the walk so please ensure you give them the names of all in your party once you have completed the walk. Once you have done this, you will receive your well-deserved certificate and goody bag!

Refreshments

We will provide water and juice. If you wish something more, then why not visit the Alona Hotel, our first dementia friendly hotel, situated behind the Marquee or the Food Outlets at M & Ds Theme park.

Toilets

Public toilets are available for use across the road from the Foreshore Beach Car Park and Children’s Playground, about half a mile from the marquee. M & Ds and the Alona Hotel may allow you access to theirs but this is at your own discretion.

Emergency Situations/Injuries

If you require first aid assistance or have any problems at any point throughout the day, please approach any member of the Alzheimer Scotland team or a walk marshal (who will be wearing hi-viz vests) stationed along the route. All injuries or accidents must be reported to staff in the marque. First-Aiders will be present there for the duration of the day.

Photographs

You may notice an event photographer going around taking pictures of the event and the participants. These may be displayed on our website and Facebook page and possibly future marketing material, such as our newsletter.

If for any reason you would prefer not to get your photo taken, please inform staff at the registration desk or let the photographer know directly.

Where do I send my sponsorship and donations?

Please post any cheques or CAF's, made payable to Alzheimer Scotland to Arlene Crockett, Policy & Engagement Manager, 81 Oxford Street, Glasgow, G5 9EP. Please send all funds within 4 weeks of the event and include a covering note telling us your name, contact details and detailing you took part in the Strathclyde Park Memory Walk. If you have any completed sponsorship forms please return these with your sponsorship so we can claim the Gift Aid.

The Park

Please make use of the bins provided to dispose of your rubbish. We respectfully ask that all dog walkers clean up straightaway after their dog has fouled. Also it is important to keep your dog under close control or on a lead.

Thank You!

On behalf of all the staff at Alzheimer Scotland we would like to thank you very much for taking part in our Memory Walk event and supporting people with dementia in Scotland. We hope you and your family have a lovely day out.
