Subject:2018-2019 Instructional Reappointments
Attached are your 2018-2019 Instructional Reappointments. Please refer to the HR Webpage to obtain the additional information such as sample letters, pertinent School Board policies, State Board Rules, and Florida Statutes.
School Board Policy 2.02(2)(f) provides that teachers who are hired with less than one full year of classroom teaching experience and teachers who hold a Florida temporary teaching certificate shall complete the appropriate Leon County Schools’ Beginning Teacher Program in order to be eligible for reappointment. If you have any questions regarding this Board Policy or the beginning teacher codes listed on your reappointment printouts, please contact Chris Harvey in Professional Learning at 487-7809.
Please refer to the Instructional Contract Definition Page for Beginning Teacher Program Status codes and contract codes that appear on your instructional reappointment printouts.
Instructional staff hired after July 1, 2011 are appointed to a probationary contract and their contract type is reflected as “PC” on your reappointment printout. If they are recommended for reappointment, their contract status becomes annual only if the teacher meets either the number of hours worked (742.5 hours) or has worked the number of days (99 days) to receive credit for the year. Those meeting this requirement will reflect an “E” in the contract status column of your printout. Those who have not met this requirement will reflect an “N” in the contract status column on your printout and can only be reappointed to another probationary contract.
Please refer to the LCTA contract language 13.02(Annual Contracts) for the language thatmust be followed for reappointments as it relates to the teacher evaluation scores.
Any annual contract instructional staff member who is unable to provide proof of a valid teaching certificate by the appropriate reappointment deadline date may not be recommended for reappointment and you must submit a Liquid Office PAF terminating their employment. When the staff member
provides you a copy of a valid certificate, you may submit a Liquid Office PAF recommending them for reappointment.
If you have tenured instructional staff who do not currently hold a valid teaching certificate, contact Sue Christie (middle and high schools and special sites), 487-7208 or Barbara Hadden (elementary schools), 487-7202 immediately.
If a tenured teacher does not renew their Florida teaching certificate by the 2018-2019 Reappointment Board Agenda deadline, their name will not be submitted to the Board for reappointment and their contract status may be changed to annual contract. They may not be recommended for reappointment for an annual contract without a valid Florida teaching certificate.
Reappointment printouts are due to Human Resources on April 30, 2018 by 5:00p.m.
ALL instructional staff, grades K -12, must be certified in the area of teaching assignment indicated on the reappointment printout. The grade level the staff member is teaching and whether they are “In-Field or Out of Field” must be indicated. This will assist Human Resources Staff in verifying that the employee holds the appropriate certification level for the grade they are being assigned to teach for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have a teacher who will be teaching “Out of Field” based on certification, please indicate this on your reappointment print outs and complete a Liquid Office “Out of Field Form” along with the appropriate documentation for 2nd year.
If an instructional employee’s name appears on your reappointment printout and you do not believe their name should be listed, DO NOT MARK THROUGH THEIR NAME. Contact, Sue Christie (middle and high schools and special sites) at 487-7208 or Barbara Hadden (elementary schools) at 487-7202 to determine why their name is on your printout. If an instructional employee’s name does not appear on your reappointment printout, write in their name and indicate the appropriate recommendation for reappoint or non-reappoint status for HR processing.
We look forward to assisting through the Reappointment process and appreciate your efforts to ensure the reports are current and accurate.
