Altered BookName

The purpose of this assignment is to get you in the habit of maintaining a journal and using that journal for more than just doodling or practicing drawing. You are experimenting with images, materials, and techniques. The idea is that each page is a completed artwork. The completed book is a complete art work. BE CREATIVE and remember to think of good design and demonstrate your skills! The entire book will be full at the end of the year for a project grade. You will need a hard cover book to upcycle. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from Ms. Bell for $1.00 cash.

You will work on this book in between projects and for homework. Bring to class everyday! A spread needs to be completed each week. If you lose it, you are starting over from scratch. No excuses. Keep one copy of this in your book.

The theme of the book is the alphabet. Some students create an overall theme for their books. This is optional.

You will create a double page spread that uses a word that begins with each letter of the alphabet. Think ahead for subject matter.

Each Friday, you will be assigned an art concept to incorporate into your spread. It will be posted in the room and on your class webpage. Do not wait to the last minute! It will show in your work! Be open to revising your past pages.

You will be participating in a peer critique for a grade each Friday. Sharing your work with peers is important for growth! If you do not have your book you will analyze an artwork. However the best grade you will receive is a 50. Half of the assignment because you had no book to share. You will have 5 of these grades a six weeks.

Check materials off the list on the back and write the page on which you used them! Requirements for each page:

1. Use of Space- double page spread

2. Complexity of surface- layering of at least 3 materials.

3. Technical skill in use of materials

4. Concept. Clear and original.

5. Demonstration of weekly art concept.

At the end of the fall semester. I will give you a grade for your work completed. The final project grade of the year will be the completion of this book following the above criteria. REVISE!
