Denmark Marathon 2015– May 16th.

April update/newsletter 2015

Hi marathon crews,

Our marathon is almost here, perhaps the biggest news is the inclusion of the canoe and kayak paddlers joining us. The Denmark Riverside Canoe Club is holding a regatta for their members which will run alongside our marathon event. So feel free to pass the word.

The raffle will be great again this year, tickets will still be $2 each or 3 for $5. There will 3 prizes - 1st winner chooses from either of 3 prizes, second choses from 2 remaining prizes and 3rd takes whatever is left.

Registration Form Attached: Please register as soon as possible. Eventhough we have received an expression of interest from some clubs, it isstill important to register and pay.(Anticipated numbers is OK) Crew List: Can be filled out on theday and handed in at the sweeps/captains beefing.

Numbers attending the after party, need to be communicated direct to the Boston Brewery, so they can set up and cater accordingly, just let them know it’s for the Dragon Boat Party.

Order and pay for your meals and drinks as you go. Details are copied below from the previous update. This should be a fantastic evening. Includes the Raffle Draw.

Itinerary:

8:00am – Un-load boats

8:30am - Sweep and Crew Captain brief

8:50am – Dotting of the eye ceremony

9:00am/9:15am Marathon Start

11:00am – 12:00noon load boats, clean up

Walk/drive to Riverside Club

12:15/12:30pmSausage sizzle/burger lunch and presentation (Bar available no BYO)

The rest of the afternoon is yours torest or explore town or by prior arrangement our ali boats will be available if you wish to paddle.

5:30pm – Meet at the Boston Brewery for the “after party”

  • After Party:

Boston Brewery at Willoughby Park just 3km out of town will set up long tables for us and arrange music for our function. Entry is free. Meals are fantastic and are off the usual menu, so you can order according to your own taste on the night.Although a booking has been made for this function it is open to all family members and friends, therefore for catering and setting up purposes all teams are asked to contact them before the event with numbers wishing to attend. 9848 1555 or email

  • Fibreglass Boats:

We are happy for you bring your fibreglass boat or arrange to borrow one from another club. Denmark club can only supply aluminium boats if that’s the way you want to go please let us know and we’ll have one ready for you on the day.

  • Extra Crew members:

No more than 16 paddlers in a boat. Clubs must fully understand 16 has been the number allocated because of safety reasons, we have a risk management plan that takes into account if conditions on the inlet become choppy* the gunnels need to be high.

This year we also have a tens division.

Extra crew members are welcome to come down to Denmark, we are hoping to have a mixed crew made of any extra paddlers, or use them to fill boats that may not have enough paddlers.

*The inlet is open water and does get rough when wind conditions change. (Note: May is often calm and beautiful in Denmark but sometimes things don’t go to plan and weather could be one of those things.)

  • Accommodation:

Please feel free to stay wherever you wish.

The closest is Rivermouth Caravan Park which will be adjacent the start line. The public boat ramp we are using to launch the boats is on their front lawn and they have kindly allowed us to use their restroom facilities.

Payment of $10 per paddler plus sweep competing should be paid to Denmark Dragon Boat Club Inc.with this registration before end of April unless other arrangements have been made with Denmark DBC.

CREW LIST information

Please fill out the crew list and hand in at the Marathon.
  1. Enter the name of each crew member, the DBWA registration number if they are registered and indicate if individual can swim 50 m. Paddlers who are unable to swim this distance are required to wear a personal floatation device (PFD)
  1. A waiver form must also be completed and signed by all participants who are not members of DBWA. This will be available on the day and is a requirement prior to competing in the event.
  1. Hand in the crew list at the sweeps briefing on the day of the Marathon.

Maximum 17 crew members, this includes a sweep.
