Main Purpose of Role: / To support the Accountant (Financial Accounts) by providing day to day management of the Faculty and Service Processing teams, their main function is to process purchase orders, invoices and travel for the University.

  • Allocate and supervise work within the Faculty and Service Processing teams in consultation with the Accountant (Financial Accounts), including ensuring that appropriate controls and segregation of duty are in place.
  • Provide day to day management and support of staff to provide a high standard of customer service and liaison with suppliers for the University and its subsidiaries.
  • Support the Accountant (Financial Accounts) in developing, implementing and communicating suitable policies and procedures to Faculties and Services within the University.
  • Provide reports and management information including key performance indicators and all other relevant information to support finance strategies within the University group.
  • Provide day to day management of transactions via the Finance system (currently Oracle) to ensure timely turnaround of transaction within the University.
  • Liaison with other sections within Finance to manage the cash position of the University group.
  • To take the lead on ensuring process efficiency and effectiveness as part of continuous improvement in the department.
  • Implement suitable controls and procedures around all types transactions processed by the team including day to day management of all compliance issues e.g. VAT
  • Support the Accountant (Financial Accounts) in liaison with internal and external auditors, Faculties and Service of the University and Student Loan Company as required
  • Support the Accountant (Financial Accounts) in specific IT development related to the relevant systems to drive improvements in the customer experience
  • Participate as part of a team in identified IT development projects within Finance making relevant suggestions and improvements as appropriate to develop systems and procedures
  • Ensure a consistently high level of customer service is provided by the teams, in particular to students, and all queries are successfully handled in a fair and consistent manner effectively liaising with other teams across the University as required

  • Actively working towards or holder of relevant CCAB qualification or equivalent experience for the role

Knowledge andExperience:
  • Experience of supervising staff and working in a Finance department
  • Good working knowledge of the processing function
  • Experience in providing an excellent customer service
  • Demonstrable high level of IT skills
  • Knowledge and an understanding of finance IT systems
  • Ability to understand Faculty and Services needs and fulfill their requirements within the policies and procedures
  • Demonstrable proactive, enthusiastic and flexible approach and the drive to succeed
  • Demonstrable ability to work as part of a team to achieve successful implementation of projects and process improvements
  • Demonstrable problem solving skills and ability to communicate clearly by phone, e-mail and in writing

  • Working knowledge of the principles of accounting
  • Understanding of the challenges of processing high levels of request within the Higher Education sector
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the ORACLE accounting package and related modules
