PROCEDURE

1 / PREPARATION
  • Ensure that all induction and training is complete prior to performing the task.
  • Hi visibility clothing and task specific gloves must be worn
  • Visually inspect area where you are standing.
  • Exclusion zones must be adhered to whilst loading is in progress
  • Check for windy conditions
  • Ensure the environment is safe for this operation:
  • Adequate lighting,
  • Smooth, flat, dry floors where possible.
  • Area not congested with other traffic freight, pallets etc.

2 / OPERATION
  • Ensure that the operator is standing on a flat and even surface, ensure that the area is free from oil and water and that his/her footing is secure
  • Ensure that the correct chain and or Webbing are of correct type and size and are free of any damage.
  • Unroll webbing from carrier
  • Throw webbing over load
  • Ensure that the webbing and or chain to be tightened are secured at both ends and that all webbing and chains are not twisted or caught any where on the load.
  • Ensure that the winch bar is clean and free from oil, grease and water or any other material whilst being used.
  • Place winch bar fully into winch ensuring it is fully seated and firm into the winch then tighten
  • Ensure that the tapered drive is seated fully and firmly into the truck winch to prevent injury whilst tightening the load.
  • When using the Truck Winch Bar, always pull/push in a Vertical motion. Do not pull side ways.Note: Do not use foot; handle extensions or any other object on the winch bar to tighten.
  • Once webbing straps firm, place two hands on winch bar to finish tightening, ensuring correct manual handling technique used (bend from the knees).

3 / ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONS
  • Do not use your foot to push down on the Truck Winch Bar to tighten and loosen the Truck Winch.
  • Always keep head and body clear of any winch bar whilst tightening.
  • When using one hand on winch bar, always ensure one hand is on the combing rail to help keep your balance.
  • Always ensure that the area is clear of persons whilst using the winch bar.
  • Do not make repairs, alterations unless authorised
  • Do not use handle extension of any kind on any truck winch bar
  • Never use the Load Binder attachment to tighten a load binder, this attachment is for the release of the load binder safely only.
  • Always handle the truck winch bar by the knurled area only

4 / MAINTENANCE
Always inspect that the Truck Winch Bar is clear of cracks, bends and wear before use at all times.
