Meeting Minutes

1.Financial status of the BERF fund for October 2011 thru end September 30, 2012:

  • BEP has been consistent on spending funds that are brought in.
  • BEP has a revolving account so all funds don’t have to be spend at end of fiscal year unlike other state agencies.
  • Anticipate using funds for equipment at upcoming new facility. (Tacoma Public Utilities). BEP will supply equipment, but facility will pay for construction.
  • BEP spent over $25,000 in remodeling projects at various sites such as Cherry Street, ESD, and Pierce County Annex.
  • BEP spent over $51,000 in equipment repairs. This does not include the amount vendors paid in repairs as well.
  • One storage unit was given up as so much equipment has been dispersed to various facilities rather than purchasing new equipment. BEP spent over $8,000 in storage unit rentals. Next year, BEP will have to start paying rent on a facility storage room that was never charged in the past.
  • Over $6,000 was spent on moving equipment.
  • Attorney General fees were much lower this year. Only about $300.
  • BEP spent over $10,000 on motor pool vehicles. Most of these costs were accrued on the cargo van Jim uses.

2.Voting for Vendors Benefit Package

  • Jeanne reported that the BEP program is in good standing.
  • There will be approximately $140,000-$150,000 to be paid out in benefit package.
  • Vendors needed to agree on 2 options to place on ballot for vote. Two amounts were approved and nominations were closed.
  • Robert Ott nominated 100% to be given to vendors and Gloria Walling seconded the nomination. Roy Gappert nominated the amount of 75% be given to vendors with 25% being given back to BEP and Teresa Lensegrav seconded the nomination.
  • Ballots shall be going out soon.

3.Declaration by Vendors for Vendor Committee Representation

  • Robert Miller and Tami Dawes were nominated for Southwest Region.
  • Since Gloria Walling is now moving back to NW Region, Roy Gappert agreed to finish out the one year left on her SW term.
  • Alan Madderra, Robert Brezler, James Janney, Carrie Arnold and Gloria Walling were nominated for Northwest Region.
  • Carrie Arnold, Robert Brezler and Gloria Walling were nominated for the At-Large position.
  • Ballots will be mailed out soon to all vendors to bid on these nominees or to write- in your nomination(s).

4.Health Benefit Open Season- Starts November 1st

  • Contact Jeanne if interested in finding out more information and/or to sign up for health insurance. This is for medical only and not dental or vision.
  • Will cost roughly $500 for individual and $1100 for couple.

5.State of the Program

  • New Opportunity available in January 2013 at the Tacoma Public Utilities building. Over 1100 staff in building, plus monthly catering opportunities. Facility will be remodeled in stages throughout the year.
  • DSHS Tacoma was awarded to Gloria Walling. It is again her primary location.
  • DOT/ESD Olympia will be put out to bid next month.

6.BEP Food Service Training Program

  • 1 individual currently in training and on schedule to graduate 3rd week of November.
  • Another BEP class will start soon. Have student in Vancouver area.
  • BEP anticipates teaming up with DSB VR for a week long self-employment seminar. Details are still being discussed. Hoping to use various BEP cafeterias to provide internships to potential BEP students. VR would cover wages.

7.Share and Compare

  • Since so many vendors shared ideas and stories throughout the entire meeting, this topic was considered sufficiently covered at this time.
