What did we do?
Additional Swimming Coach
  • Increased specialist teacher capacity meant that the children’s swimming lessons were able to be differentiated into three swimming stage groups for the Summer Term. This impacted on the children that were already competent swimmers as they were able to work on refining their techniques.
  • It also significantly impacted on the size of the ‘beginners’ group as the group size was reduced and more targeted teaching could take place. More children were able to be developed and moved into group 2 sooner so as not to limit their development with basic skills swimming.
  • This initiative meant that all children across the three ability groups were given more teaching time and personalised feedback.

Staff Training and Development
  • Staff confident and competent in delivering quality first PE lessons
  • Staff’s subject knowledge in specifically teaching gymnastics, hockey, basketball has improved so good quality lessons are being taught
  • Staff are better able to assesspupils starting points in PE and plan developmental activities accordingly.
  • Nine Staff were involved in the programme this academic year and their personal progress in teaching PE was monitored and assessed. Staff confidence and subject knowledge has improved with all lessons observed being judged to be good or better.

Dance Desk Support
  • Subject leader for PE had good quality access to PE network, legislation and subject leader development in order to lead PE effectively.

Afterschool Clubs Provision
  • Greater proportion of children accessing a broader range of afterschool clubs including tennis, archery, cycling, golf, team games, Street Dance, Disney Dance, athletics, football and basketball.
  • Greater proportion of early years’ children accessing fitness related after school clubs.
  • Greater proportion of Pupil Premium children attending sport related afterschool clubs.
  • Our own after school care club engaging in more physical activities due to increased resources.

Family Wellbeing
  • Significant parental and family engagement in community walks / bike rides and scooter initiative: Beat the Street. Family activity, motivation and participation high resulting in school achieving second place in Sandwell Competition.
  • All Saints community event coinciding with ‘Move to Improve’ message to promote physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Able to offer Family Learning Days off site to facilitate forest walks, den building, scavenger hunts and outdoor play. Promoted physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Working in collaboration with Ground Works- Make, Move and Munch was a afterschool club for families to attend for 8 weeks for 2 hours each week. 12 families attended and feedback was that the club provided live cooking demonstrations on healthy eating and also a physical aspect to the club- family exercise and activity.

Adventure and Outdoor Learning Resources
  • School continue to be able to offer second Forest School and outdoor learning site so more children could access physical outdoor adventure and play.
  • Increased physical activity opportunities across the curriculum and in all year groups.
  • Increased the regularity of nursery and reception children being able to access physical development using the outdoor environment.
  • More varied use of site for afterschool clubs e.g. gardening, outdoor adventure, golf, archery and team games.

Focus on Physical Development in Early Years
  • Taster session for families and pre-school children in Move with Peppa- led to the school being a trial school to run the programme with our nursery children and children in reception not on track to meet the early goal for physical development for 6 weeks.
  • Staff have ensured wake and shake happens every day within the unit.
  • There have been extra PE sessions provided for targeted children, extra targeted outdoor learning sessions have taken place, fine motor booster groups (focusing on strengthening skills, dough disco, pencil skills) from the start of the year.
  • Physical development has been our greatest area of progress in early years this year. 97% of pupils achieved ARE on exit from EYFS. This includes 100% of pupil premium children.
