‘All mothers are working mothers’

The quotation, ‘all mothers are working mothers’ is found on www.motherhood.org.au a recent site established to encourage mums. Mother’s Day, 10th May is almost upon us, a day when every person appreciates their mum. Alison Marsh also wants mums to know that they have one of the most important roles in society.

Mrs Marsh, ‘Mum’ to 5 children and ‘Grandma’ to her twin grandchildren said, “We try our best as mothers, but we are constantly encouraged to leave our precious children in the care of others and get back into the paid workforce. We all know that our children need a mum and a dad. One of us should be giving them the nurturing they require, not leaving them in the care of others who are not part of the family.” The new ebook by Dr Peter Cook proves this point well.

As part of Value Mothers 2009, motherhood.org.au has compiled encouraging quotations about motherhood and has the largest number of mother’s quotes, funny mother’s quotes and inspiring mother’s quotes of any Australian website. Children and adults are encouraged to go online and find a quote to encourage their mum this Mother’s Day– they will be sure to find something to suit in the pages and pages of quotes available. Some examples of the quotes are:

Always be nice to your children because they are the ones who will choose your rest home.

- Phyllis Diller

Only mothers can think of the future-because they give birth to it in their children. - Maxim Gorky

The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world. - W.R. Wallace

Motherhood: All love begins and ends there. - Robert Browning

Before you were conceived I wanted you. Before you were born I loved you. Before you were here an hour I would die for you. This is the miracle of love. - Maureen Hawkins

My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it. - Mark Twain

www.motherhood.org.au is part of Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation. In 2006, 2007 and 2009 the Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation produced CSAs to celebrate mothers. This year they interviewed children on their unique thoughts about their mums.

Alison Marsh feels that so many of the problems in our society today affect the way children are parented. She said, “We decry the problems that face society today but seem powerless to ensure parents are valued as they should be. Let’s start this Mother’s Day. Let your mum know how much you appreciate all that she has done for you”.

Children love their mums. Children love the opportunity to tell them so.

Come on, give your mum a special mention as George Washington did about 250 years ago.

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.

George Washington (1732-1799)
