Algona City Council
Council Workshop
July 28, 2015
Mayor Pro Tem Osborn called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Roll call was taken with Council members Tim Fairley, Bill Thomas, Ed Britz, and Dawn Dofelmire was present. Staff members present were Diana Quinn – City Administrator, and Laurie Cassell – Deputy City Clerk-Treasurer.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was unanimously approved upon motion by Fairley; seconded by Britz.
COUNCIL DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. Ordinances & Resolutions – None
B. Discussion Items – Formulation of a Mission/Vision Statement – Diana brought the ideas from the last Council Workshop. She handed out different ideas for a mission statement and a vision statement. Discussion took place and the council members came up with these statements:
Mayor Pro Tem Osborn: Maintain personal and welcoming services to our
citizens.
Council member Thomas: Providing superior service to our entire City while
maintaining a finely woven community richly diverse in all its aspects.
Council member Fairley: Providing superior service while keeping the small town
atmosphere in our diverse community.
Council member Dofelmire: Providing superior service while maintaining
personal contact with the entire diverse community.
The council members will look at the ideas presented and discuss the mission/
vision statement at the next Council Workshop on August 25, 2015.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION – Mike Dawkins – 229 4th Avenue N – He complimented on how well Algona Days went this year and thanked the entire staff. He also recommended his thought on a mission/vision statement as - A partnership of awareness, cooperation and understanding between the citizens and the City of Algona and assurance to all that they can become a vital part of this community.
