CLASSROOM EXPECTATION:

Each student will be expected to come to class prepared to learn by bringing all supplies and textbook every day. Also, students will be in their seats prepared to work when the tardy bell rings and complete class work or homework each day. Students will respect themselves and their class mates everyday. Students will respect the classroom by throwing away their own trash and not entering the classroom with food or drinks.

TEKS FOR COURSE:

A complete list and description of the TEKS for Pre-Calculus (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) can be found at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/rules/tac/chapter111/ch111c.html#111.35

GRADING DETERMINATION:

Each six weeks: 60% - Major Grades (Tests and projects)

30% - Minor Grades (Class work, labs, and quizzes)

10 %- Homework

Each semester: 84% - Average of the three six weeks

16% - Semester Exam

SUPPLIES:

Paper, pencil, colored pen and textbook are required everyday. Precalculus with Limits is not available on-line. A copy of the textbook is available for your computer. Please bring a flash drive that has at least 300 MB of free space if you would like a copy for your computer. All students are expected to keep an organized notebook (three ring binder) for the course with sections for notes, class work, and quizzes. A TI-Nspire graphing calculator will be supplied for in class use only. It is recommended that some type of graphing calculator be purchased and left at home for use during homework when it is assigned.

HOMEWORK AND LATE HOMEWORK PROCEDURE:

Expect an assignment everyday. Homework is an integral part of any math class and Pre-Calculus Pre-AP is no exception. An assignment turned after the due date will receive a grade no higher than a 50. Homework that is not turned in or does not follow the problem/figure, work calculations/methods and a complete answer format will receive a 0.

TEST / RETEST PROCEDURE:

All math tests will fall on a Monday or Wednesday. At the start of each unit, students will be given the date of the test. If you are absent on the review day before the test, you will still be required to take the test as long as no new information was given. If you are absent on the day of the test, you should make it up as soon as possible to maximize performance. Students will have one week to make up a missed test. I am available to administer the make up test in my room or in the math tutoring lab upon prior arrangement.

Students will be given the opportunity to retest no more than five days after the original grade is recorded if the original grade is below a 70. Students who participate in the retake opportunity can have a maximum grade of 70. For example, if a student original grade is a 50, and their retake grade is a 60, then the student will receive 60. If a student original grade is a 50, and their retake grade 80, then the student will receive 70.

Students who receive a grade deduction or a zero on an assignment due to the student code of conduct are not eligible for the redone work or the retake opportunity.

PROJECTS:

In Pre-Calculus Pre-AP, projects are infrequent and no more than one project per grading period.

TUTORIALS:

Any student needing extra help is welcome to come in before or after school. My tutorial times are:

Morning tutorials: Monday and Wednesday 6:50 AM to 7:20 AM

After school tutorials: Tuesday and Thursday 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM

Please check to make sure I am available that day. If I am unavailable, arrangements can be made with another teacher. There is always a teacher available if you are willing to stay.

GRADE REPAIR:

Student will have the opportunity to receive instruction to recover six weeks grades. This intervention plan may include students attending after school Grade Repair or Grade Repair during the school day. The highest grade a student can earn is a 75. This grade will replace the previous six weeks grades for that particular course. Students enrolled in Pre-AP courses may enroll in Grade Repair and receive Pre-AP credit but will need to complete 100% of the course. Students enrolled in on-level courses will need to complete 80% of the grade repair course.

TARDY POLICY PER SIX WEEKS:

Students will lose exemption status when receiving ASD for their third tardy accrued in a class during a six week grading period. On the third tardy accrued during a six week grading period, the student will be referred to his/her AP on a discipline referral and receive one day (2 hours) of after-school-detention (ASD). Subsequent tardies during the six weeks grading period will receive the following consequences:

·  One day Saturday detention (4 hours).

·  One, two or three days of in-school-suspension (ISS).

·  One, two or three days of out-of school-suspension (OSS).

At any time the teacher feels that a student is making no effort to arrive to class on time, the teacher may refer that student to his/her AP for “NON-COMPLIANCE”.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN PRE-CALCULUS:

·  Come in for tutoring as soon as you feel lost. Speak up for yourself so I can help!

·  Attempt every homework problem. Put a star by questions you don’t understand and ask about them the next day.

·  Re-read notes before attempting homework.

·  Be here! Attendance is very important. If you are absent, make up your assignments/tests ASAP! The longer you wait, the more you will forget! You are responsible for all material missed due to an absence.

·  When studying for a test, review notes, go over homework problems, and review quizzes for that unit.

·  Correct all errors made on tests and quizzes. Don’t make the same mistake twice.

·  Take responsibility for YOUR own learning! Education is vital to YOUR success.
