Pre-Requisites: In order to be enrolled in this course, a student must have successfully completed Algebra II or receive permission from the mathematics department.

Textbook: Pearson Geometry, 2012; Online access at powergeometry.com

Required Materials:

  • 3 ring binder
  • 1-2 looseleaf notebook(s)
  • Pencils/Erasers
  • Calculator
  • Protractor
  • Graph paper

**Bring all materials to class daily. Being unprepared for class is not acceptable!!

Evaluation:

  • Tests 50%
  • Quizzes 35%
  • HW/Daily Quizzes15%

Absences:If a student is absent for any reason, it is his/her responsibility to make up all missed assignments. Students will have the number of days absent to make up all missed work. All test/quiz make-ups must be done at a time agreed upon by myself and the student. No exceptions!

Extra Help:Many of the lessons we cover during class are very difficult. If you become confused, ask immediately! If you don’t, it will only get worse. I am willing to help students in any way possible. Extra help will be provided before and after school. I will also make myself available during the school day whenever possible.

Other Information:

  • Books must be covered at all times!!
  • Grades are available through MMS for students and parents to view online. If you have a question about your grade, please bring a printout with you so I can address your concern directly and efficiently. I will not discuss your grade with you unless you have taken the responsibility to check it on your own. If you need information on how to access MMS, please contact the office or refer to the district webpage.

Classroom Procedures:

  1. We begin class on time. Don’t be late.
  2. Use the restroom before or after class.Passes will be granted for emergencies only. Nurse passes are reserved for true emergencies only!
  3. Be ready to learn when the bell rings. Socialize on your own time. Do not expect me to wait for you to begin teaching.
  4. Stay awake! Sleep on your own time.
  5. Raise your hand to talk and wait to be called on. Do not talk when the teacher or a classmate is talking. Doing so will result in a discipline referral.
  6. Stay in your assigned seat until dismissed by the teacher.
  7. If individual or group work is allowed you must realize it is a privilege and not a time to socialize. Use the time wisely, or lose the privilege.
  8. Leave your area in the same condition it was in when you arrived. Straighten your desk and pick up trash. If you leave a mess, you will be required to clean it up after school on your time.

**You are here to learn; not be entertained. Be prepared to work hard. Pay attention, stay awake, and ask questions. Inappropriate behavior of any kind will not be tolerated!

If you choose to not follow the procedures and expectations above, the following sequence of discipline will be strictly enforced:

1st occurrence – Warning

2nd occurrence – Academic detention/Parental contact

3rd occurrence – Discipline referral

Math Class Work Guidelines

Time (Approximate) / Expectations
20 minutes / Students will work INDIVIDUALLY and SILENTLY on the assigned problems. Notes and the textbook can be used for reference. If you don’t know how to do a problem, look it up!!
10 minutes / Students will pair up with their assigned partner and compare answers. They will discuss any discrepancies and help each other complete the assignment accurately.
5 minutes / Students will ask questions of problems they still do not understand. Correct solutions will be posted on the board.
