OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY

FATHER BOWES SCHOLARSHIP

APPLICATION

Purpose:

This scholarship was established in memory of Father Charlie Bowes who served as Pastor at OLR from 1998 until his death in 2008. The scholarship is in recognition of the high esteem he held for Catholic education. OLR values student parishioners who lead through their commitments to academic excellence and community service. The scholarship recognizes this. The scholarship is maintained through donations. This scholarship is awarded yearly until further notice with applicants considered each year based on that year’s applications. Past winners may re-apply.

This scholarship is intended to aid OLR families with expenses sending their children to John Paul II Catholic School. We would like to recognize these extraordinary students and their service achievements though the Father Bowes Scholarship. The amount of this award is $1,000.

Eligibility:

All students from OLR in the 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grade at John Paul II Catholic School are encouraged to apply.

Qualified candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Be a full time student in good standing at John Paul II Catholic School for the current year in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (B Average or better)
  • Must be eligible for “in-parish” tuition
  • Be of good character and a solid member of the parish and the community-at-large.
  • Demonstrate compassion and dedication through their acts of kindness and volunteerism.

Applying for the Award:

Students must complete the application form and short answer questions. Provide concrete examples from your experiences that demonstrate your commitment to serve as a volunteer in the parish and/or in the community. If necessary, the finalists for the award may need to sign a release to verify academic records.

Administration of the Award:

The Father Bowes Scholarship will be administered through the OLR Finance Committee under the supervision of the OLR Pastor and Parish Council. A selection committee with representation from Finance Committee, Parish Council, and the Faith Formation Committee will review all applications submitted by the deadline. A single award recipient will be recommended each year. The recommendation is reviewed and approved by the Pastor prior to the award being finalized.

The one time amount of the award is $1,000 (one thousand dollars and no cents) to be disbursed directly to school in the student’s name at the start of the second semester.
