8/12/2014 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM / (CANCELLED) ALAMANCE COUNTY-Choosing and Using an Appropriate Curriculum and Instructional Assessment Tool
Registration Closed
This five-hour workshop will provide participants, working in child care centers, with guidelines for identifying, selecting, and planning to implement a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based, curriculum for children birth to age five. It will also provide guidance on matching and selecting formative and summative assessment of learning to measure if the children are learning through the curriculum. Target Audience- Directors, center staff and family child care providers.
8/19/2014 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM / ALAMANCE COUNTY-Big Movement, Small Spaces – Carey Ann Watkins
The Be Active Kids curriculum introduces different ways to incorporate games and activities into small spaces. Participants will be equipped with multiple indoor games and activities as well as trained in the value of incorporating physical activity and movement indoors. Target Audience- center staff and family child care providers.

Through best practices as defined by NLI, this training will explore how to get started on the development and implementation of Outdoor Learning Environments. We will also discuss what makes a successful outdoor environment and look at a step-by-step process of how to make a tee-pee. Target Audience- center staff and family child care providers.
September / 9/9/2014 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM / ALAMANCE COUNTY-Introduction to the NC Foundations for Early Learning & Development
This 5-hour course will provide participants with an introduction to Foundations, North Carolina’s new Early Learning and Development expectations, how they are structured, and how to implement them in early childhood settings. Participants will construct the knowledge base necessary for supporting children in their learning and development by embedding the expectations in daily classroom planning and practice. Target Audience: Center staff, center administrators, technical assistance staff, family child care providers all agencies providing assistance on behalf of young children.

This session focuses on developing strategies and skills to make conversations more productive for everyone...especially the child! Participants will learn how to set the stage for and successfully conduct difficult convresations with parents. Target Audience- center staff and family child care providers.
9/10/2014 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM / ALAMANCE COUNTY-Motor Skills and Movement Concepts – Carey Ann Watkins
This training is an introduction to motor skills and movement concepts and how they relate. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to modify movement in order to strengthen gross motor skills. Topic areas include: locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative skills and their modifiers. The material for this training is based on the Be Active Kids curriculum. Target Audience- center staff and family child care providers.
9/17/2014 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM / ALAMANCE COUNTY- What every Baby Needs
Everything in a baby’s world happens in steps and stages. It is important to appreciate each stage as it occurs and provide the support and guidance needed to allow a successful journey through each one. This training will offer suggestions of what types of materials support learning at the different stages. You will gain insight on the benefits of providing babies with ample time and space to master a skill before moving on to start practicing a new one and will explore some of the drawbacks of intervening unnecessarily. With each mastered skill babies are discovering more about their bodies, the world around them and how the two work together. These skills are the foundations that they will carry with them throughout their life and across all domains of learning.

This training looks specifically at both the physical and intellectual development of infants and toddlers. Through the Be Active Kids curriculum we will discuss developmental milestones and games and activities to help the youngest children in daycare succeed.
