1.  Movie Night

·  October: Joint Meeting with Student Branches: “Career Perspective” (October)

3.  Boeing Gift matching to the AIAA Foundation

·  Still NO success in getting gift match despite many attempts and assurances from the Boeing Rep with CyberGrants. This is a no-go, dead issue.

·  You can make a general contribution to AIAA and Boeing will match.

·  $20 donation per member is the AIAA 2016 20th anniversary goal

4.  CAT III Funding Status on Rube Goldberg Device – Brad Sexton.

·  Status: Meeting

·  Frank Youkhana writing up piece for the newsletter, need to submit by a week from today to Alex Davies

5.  Approval of October minutes – Svoboda move to approve, Peters seconds, approved.

Chairman Report – Bob Dowgwillo

1.  Mike Rossi, our Programs Chair, will be taking a leave of absence beginning January 2018, extending through April. Search for new Chair.

2.  Provided Karolyn Evans (DD for RAC V STEM) the name of our STEM chairperson.

3.  New Social Media Policy. See HQ Documents folder on the section SharePoint

5.  Don’t forget to turn in Volunteer Hours if Boeing employee

6.  AIAA posters for display in each councilmember’s area

a.  Bob has posters tonight, councilmembers please take one and put up in your area

7.  There will be a list of section officers in the November issue of Aerospace America. Some of our recent changes won’t be reflected.

·  The CD is up for renewal on 11/10; Have request into the bank to deposit it into the Savings account.

·  New this year, National is providing an Audit/Budget checklist, created by the AIAA Secretary/Treasurer, Bill Seymore, and Emily Springer. This list should be used by the section. Audit Committee at the end of the fiscal year to make sure that everything is in order.

·  Section can now submit IRS form 990-N online for tax year 2015, which just ended on September 30, 2016.

·  Status: Provide all committee chairs with their current budgets per the Treasurer’s Audit Report, if available. For others, get an estimate for each chair for planning purposes.

o  àCommittee chairs contact Tavares and CC Dowgwillo requesting budget amount, will be reviewed at next meeting.

·  Can indicate directed allocation for Boeing match for volunteer hours, but this is not indicated on the check. Please communicate any allocation to the treasurer (e.g., for Career Development, Programs, etc.).

·  Have the art file; we could add our section logo.

·  Cost: <$10 each, plus a one-time $35 setup fee.

·  Plan: order the name tags for the council and plan on ordering new ones for new council members once each year.

·  Slides from AIAA on member demographics show a large spike in Educator Associates

·  Outreach progressing, WUSTL has new advisor helping boost student chapter

·  Big question to help answer is what is the value of being an AIAA member

·  AIAA Career and Professional Development committee should be used as a resource to help boost membership

·  Take panel to student branches

·  POCs (Students/Staff) for each branch, sending newsletters?

·  Resume review night at the schools, early in academic year

Historian Trent Duff

·  Looking for potential replacements for position that are within Boeing.

·  Dr. Henry Brownley is a Boeing historian, has a wealth of information and could be a good guest speaker

·  Derrick Bernett, Ph.D. student at SLU wrote paper on airports in Saint Louis

·  Desire to collaborate with the Boeing History Council

STEM Marlana Goldsmith

·  Taste of StL Event with SCOPE—lots of positive feedback, thanks to those who volunteered

·  Educator Associates numbers increased by 13

·  Propose Section participation in Space Systems TC middle school essay contest – Deadline March 15, 2017

o  We select 7th grade winner and 8th grade winner to be selected by national for a $100 prize for the student and a $250 prize for the science classroom (paid for by national)

o  Would like to offer a local prize also if possible. How much?

·  Current STEM budget has ~$1000 available

·  Communicating with YES (Youth Exploring Science) at the St Louis Science Center to determine if they are interested in partnering with AIAA for part of their Spring curriculum in engineering and/or astronomy

o  YES is a 4 year science program for high school students from school districts with poor science education.

·  Science Night: Communicating with Curiosity Machine (https://www.curiositymachine.org/) and a local Arts teacher who is connected with teachers that may be interested (outside of our Educator Associates) to plan science nights.

o  Targeting first science night for late January or early February
