2nd edition on 3 to 5 May in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia largest importer of food process and packaging machinery in East and Central Africa and 2nd largest of agro-technology

(Heidelberg/ Addis Ababa) Ethiopia is East and Central Africa’s largest economy and with growth rates of between 6 and 10% also one of the fastest growing economies in the world. As the largest importer of food process and packaging machinery in East and Central Africa and the 2nd largest of agro-technology, Ethiopia is in great demand for the 2nd edition of the international trade fair agrofood & plastprintpack Ethiopia. Organised by fairtrade, the show is scheduled for 3 to 5 May 2018 at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa.

The German trade show specialists fairtrade announce the 2nd edition of agrofood & plastprintpack Ethiopia on 3 to 5 May 2018 at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa. “The first edition of February 2017 closed on an extremely positive note”, outlines Martin März, founder and managing director of fairtrade. “The event saw 2,615 trade visitors from 33 countries discussing business with 60 exhibitors from 14 countries. Exhibitors and visitors were highly satisfied.”

Positive outlook for doing business in Ethiopia

With imports of 128 million Euros in 2016 (VDMA) Ethiopia is East and Central Africa’s largest importer of food processing and packaging machinery, and with 31 million Euros also the 2nd largest importer of agricultural machinery.

Ethiopia is also East and Central Africa’s largest importer of plastics in primary forms, with a phenomenal annual growth rate of 46% between 2011 and 2014, reaching 527 million Euros in 2014. And it is the 2nd largest importer of plastics and packaging machinery with annual growth rates of 25 and 59 percent.

During the past years Ethiopian food imports have by 21 percent annually, from 0.866 billion US$ in 2009 to 2.738 billion US$ in 2015. Food exports increased by 13 percent annually over the same period, to now more than 2.417 billion US-Dollar. (WTO)

agrofood plastprintpack Ethiopia 2018is supported by the French association adepta, GIZ-German association for international cooperation and the German Engineering Federation VDMA. Further trust is given by the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Ethiopian Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Industry Development Institute, the Food Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority of Ethiopia and the Chemical and Construction Inputs Industry Development Institute.
