Doğuş Group & Bilgili Holding are collaborating with the Eczacıbaşı Group on the construction of a new building for Istanbul Modern, to be designed to world-class standards
AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED FOR ISTANBUL MODERN’S NEW MUSEUM BUILDING
Salıpazarı Port Management and Investments Inc., the developer and manager of the Galataport project, and the Istanbul Modern Art Foundation (İMSAV) have signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of a new building for Istanbul Modern, Turkey’s first museum of modern art.
According to the agreement, the new building will be designed to world-class standards and constructed with the joint contributions of the museum’s founding sponsor, the Eczacıbaşı Group, and the Doğuş Group & Bilgili Holding partnership. Under the terms of the signed protocol, the new museum will be much larger than the current building and equipped to provide an international standard of service, with a scheduled completion date of 2019.
According to the collaboration agreement, Doğuş Group & Bilgili Holding will be listed among the main sponsors of Istanbul Modern’s new building.
A museum building of international prominence
With the completion of Istanbul Modern’s new building, the city will have a museum that draws international acclaim. Discussions with the world’s best museum architects are underway for the design of Istanbul Modern’s new building.
The museum will be temporarily housed in the historical Karaköy Post Office
Until its new building is completed, Istanbul Modern will welcome art lovers at the historical Karaköy Post Office, also located within the Galataport project area. This venue will be restored by Doğuş Group & Bilgili Holding in a way that allows Istanbul Modern to carry out all of its usual activities until the new museum building is ready, while also preserving the venue’s historical fabric.
Turkey’s first museum of modern art
Since its establishment on December 11, 2004, at its current location in Antrepo No.4, Istanbul Modern has served visitors from all walks of life with the support and collaboration of local government and public and private sector institutions. Over the years, the number of museum visitors has increased rapidly, making Istanbul Modern one of the few art institutions in Turkey of international renown. To date, Istanbul Modern has received over 6.5 million visitors.
