The panel will present the current state of affairs in the protection and promotion of the rights of older persons. It will focus on the implementation of existing norms on discrimination, violence and abuse, and the participation and empowerment of older persons. At the same time, it will identify gaps in (national, regional and global) legislative framework.

9.15 – 11.00 / Interactive Panel 2: The promotion and protection of rights of older persons: a way forward (Fish Bowl format)
The panel will discuss potential solutions. It will present the best practices of certain states in adopting and implementing legislative measures to counter discrimination and abuse of older persons, and empower them to participate in economic and social life. It should also provide information on regional mechanisms for the rights of older persons. Finally, it should tackle efforts to improve the legislative framework at the global level.
