Reception classroom bid - Success!

In the Autumn term, the school put in a funding bid to North Yorkshire to completely renovate and overhaul the Reception classroom and adjoining area. We heard last week that we have been successful! After a feasibility study later on in the year, we hope that the work will start in the Summer holidays of 2014.

Class Topics for Summer term

Unicorn Class (Reception/Year 1/2)

Potty about plants is the topic this term. The children will be learning all about growing plants and how to care for them. They will also be making bird feeders to sell at the Spring Festival. In art they will be studying the artist Andy Goldsworthy and making their own pictures in his style. Later on in the term they will be visiting HarlowCarrGardens.

Phoenix Class (Year 3/4)

The Phoenix class will be Nature Detectives, investigating climates and how humans affect their local environment. Also the children will be learning about how animals move and grow and how their bodies adapt as they become older. Included in this term’s topic are days out to HarlowCarrGardens and attending Countryside Day at the Yorkshire Showground. Finally, Phoenix class will be researching the art of Balthasar van der Ast, who was famous for painting plants and insects.

Griffin Class (Year 5/6)

This term the Griffin class will be ‘down by the river’. Through fieldwork and research they will be investigating rivers and the effects they have on the environment. They will be looking at the importance of the water cycle which will lead to experiments in evaporation, condensation, dissolving and filtering. The children will also be creating clay times and electronic factbooks on rivers. Of course, the children will be looking forward to their residential trip to BewerleyPark.

Gardening Club - help and plant donations needed

After the fantastic work at the end of last year clearing the front of the school, we now need to re-plant. We would like to have a short garden working party on the morning of Saturday 27th April to mulch and plant the new flower beds. If anyone has any spare plants for this area, please let us know. If you can volunteer for an hour or two; or have spare plants, please chat to Mrs Hart or Fiona Slight. Thank you very much.

St George’s Day School Dinner

In honour of our patron saint day - Tuesday 23rd April, Mrs Tulley will be cooking a traditional English dinner of:

Beef Pie and gravy, vegetable medley and potatoes with a St George’s day muffin for dessert.

Please contact the school office if you would like your child to have this special scrumptious

school dinner.
