Affiliated Clinical Services Training Program

Affiliated Clinical Services (ACS) is a state certified outpatient mental health facility that has a reputation for providing quality mental health and substance abuse treatment services in Washington County for over 25 years. ACS therapists provide a wide variety of caring, specialized treatment approaches which reflect a variety of training and education backgrounds including: psychiatry, psychology, psychiatric nursing and clinical social work.

In 2009, the clinic began offering a comprehensive training program focused on the development of areflective supervision structure that ensures support for our staff, transfer of knowledge, and implementation of best practices for the children and families we serve. We areproud of our transformation into a learning organization, focusing on staff and community education and development.

Graduate level social work and professional counseling trainees interested in applying for the limited number of training positions are encouraged to submit a resume to ACS for consideration. Following an interview, reference review and background check, the successful candidate will enter into an agreement with ACS that clearly specifies clinical and supervision expectations. Supervision for trainees is provided by Dan Laurent, LCSW, CSAC, ICS who has over 25 years of clinical experience providing mental health and AODA services.

Masters trained candidates are allowed to provide direct clinical services if they possess a substance abuse counselor in training certificate, a substance abuse counselor credential or training license as a social worker, professional counselor or marriage and family therapist. In addition, the individual’s clinical supervisor is required to authorize the trainee to provide direct services in any of the core functions only after they demonstrate attaining adequate training, knowledge, skill and clinical experience to competently provide these services. Graduate Trainees are paid a percentage of their receipts based on their experience and are eligible for an increase in this percentage with satisfactory development of their practice at ACS.

The clinical requirement for supervision of all trainees is a minimum of one hour of face to face supervision per 40 clinical hours of therapy provided. In addition, trainees who possess a substance abuse counselor in training certificate or a substance abuse counselor credential are required to attend the weekly AODA specific staff meetings and strongly encouraged to attend the bi-weekly clinical staff meetings.
