Letuspraisethosefatherswhohavestriventobalancethedemandsofwork,marriage,andchildrenwithanhonestawarenessofbothjoyandsacrifice.Letuspraisethosefatherswho,lackingagoodmodelforafather,haveworkedtobecomea goodfather.
Letuspraisethosefatherswhobytheirownaccountwerenotalwaystherefortheirchildren,butwhocontinuetoofferthose children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglectand hostility of theirchildren.
Letuspraisethosefatherswho,despitedivorce,haveremainedintheirchildren'slives.Letuspraisethosefatherswhose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing.
Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned theirstepchildren'sloveandrespect.Letuspraisethosefatherswho havelostachildtodeath,andcontinuetoholdthechildintheir heart.
Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.Let us praise those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.
Let us praise those men whoare about to become fathers; may they openly delight in theirchildren.
Andletuspraisethosefatherswhohavedied,butliveoninourmemoryandwhoselovecontinuestonurtureus.

The students at Columbia Elementary and the students in Mrs. Debolt's Mrs. Beachesteam's classes made cards for theVeteransforMemorialDay.TomWisedroveBobSylviaGrissom,SherryWareandmyselftotheVeteransClinic.Weweregreetedbythestaffinsuchapositiveway.Wetoldthemthatthestudentshadmadethecardsandwantedtothanktheveteransfortheirservice.Receptionists,doctors,nurses,andpatientswaitingforappointmentsortreatmenttooktimeouttoletusshareourcardswiththem.Itdidn'tseemtomatterifthereweremisspellings,incompletecards(duetotimeissues)ormarkersthat bledthrough, theysimply appreciatedourefforts.
OurvisitmadeabigimpactontheColumbiastudentsaswevisitedtheirbuilding. Sherryhadmadeeachstudentared,whiteblue key ring. We handedthemout and shared with themhow pleasedthe veteranswerewith theircards.
IsharedaboutourvisitwithMrs.Debolt'sclass.OnestudenttookapictureofthecardKristiAlexanderhadmadeforustohavetheveteranssign.theirnamesandbranchofservice.Whenaskedwhyhewastakingpictureshesaidhewantedtosharetheexperienceathome.Itbroughthisteachertotears.Theexperienceisonethatimpactedmylifeaswellasthosewhodispersedthecards.IfyouareeveravailableonadaythatTomasksforvolunteerstogototheVeteransClinicinColumbus,pleasetakeadvantageofthisopportunity.
