Wind Industry Update
Speakers: / Maggie Dorrell, LC-IESNA, has over 20 years of experience as a professional consultant in the commercial, infrastructure, architectural outdoor and industrial markets, began her career with Acuity Brands Lighting, Holophane Division in 2003. Ms. Dorrell has her Lighting Certification (LC) through IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) and is an active member of IEEE. Currently a Regional Industrial Director for Central United States, as a former adjunct instructor of business courses at Tulsa Community College, Ms. Dorrell enjoys sharing her business and lighting knowledge to customers by offering AIA accredited courses.
Mike Steinke is the Executive Managing Partner for Wind Energy Consulting and Contracting (WECC). He has personally acted as a wind business consultant on in excess of 100 projects ranging from 50kW ‘behind the meter’ projects to large wind farms. Mike has qualified as an expert witness in litigation involving wind farms, acted as an instructor in Wind Technology at Autry Technical Center (junior college), testified before the Oklahoma legislature on wind energy issues, made presentations before audiences at Kansas State University and other learning institutions, and routinely speaks to community groups throughout the West. Moreover, Mike has assisted the Oklahoma legislature in crafting ‘wind friendly’ legislation and is published in a variety of journals and newspapers regarding the wind industry.
Summary: / A review of how LEDs are made and how they operate inside a luminaire. The learning objectives include:
• What is the construction of an LED? All LED’s are not the same; here’s why?
• What are key operating conditions of an LED?
• What factors affect life and output?
• When do LEDs make economic sense?
• What are the current challenges when specifying LEDs?
• What are key factors in energy reduction without compromising light levels?
Overview of the wind industry and WECC mission to provide consultative, scientific, and project management expertise, to carry wind projects successfully from start to finish – from beginning to wind.
