Responsibilities of Rowan County Senior High School

  • Only applicants who meet all prerequisites will be scheduled in an AP/Honors/Advanced course.
  1. A minimum of a B average in prior content related courses
  2. Committee acceptance of application.

And

  1. Agreement to take AP Exam and arranging for payment (for AP class.)
  • AP Teachers will be required to follow the AP course syllabus and description.
  • AP Courses will NOT follow standards based grading system per policy.
  • AP Teachers will complete appropriate professional development.
  • NO SUMMER ASSIGNMENT will be required to take the AP/Honors/Adv. Class.

Responsibilities of Students

  • Only students who meet all prerequisites will be scheduled in an AP/Honors/Adv. course. (SEE ABOVE.)
  • AP Students will be required to take the AP Exam at the date and time specified by the College Board. Students who do not wish to take the course for “AP” credit may take the same course for “Honors” credit during the same time receiving unweighted credit. This means students remain in the “AP” course time frame but are listed in an “Honors” course.
  • The fee due date will be established yearly by the AP coordinator and announced to the students. Students whose exams are not paid in full by October 15th will be dropped to the “Honors” level of that course during the same timeframe as the AP course.
  • Students who transfer in from another school who were already enrolled in an AP course will be given two weeks from day of enrollment to pay for the exam(s) provided their enrollment is after October 15th.

Responsibilities of Parents

  • Parents and students must sign and return the application to the Guidance Office.
  • Parents and students understand that the AP/Honors/Adv. Courses are being taught at a higher rigor than regular courses and requires significant outside of school commitment to complete reading and writing assignments.
  • If exam payment would create a financial hardship, please contact theAP Coordinator immediately. Circumstances will be considered and the school will try to make any arrangements necessary.

PAYMENT PLAN OPTIONS for AP TEST(S)

  • In order to receive AP Credit and weighted grade, students will be required to take the AP Exam in May according to the College Board AP Exam schedule.

~Fee for the exam changes yearly.

~Students/Parents may choose from one of the following payment options.

PLAN 1:Parents may choose to pay in full no later than October 15th

PLAN 2:Parents may choose to pay in 4 installments

~Payment 1—by August 30th

~Payment 2—by September 15th

~Payment 3—by September 30th

~Payment 4—on or before October 15th

~Students whose exams are not paid in full by October 15th will be dropped from the “AP” section and assigned to the “Honors” section during the same timeframe as the AP course.
