COURSE SYLLABUS

ADV. HYD/TROUBLESHOOTING HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS Spring 2008 Great BasinCollege Course Credits 1.5

Instructor: Dale Bolinder DT 299 E09 & E10

Course Emphasis

Load-Sensing/Pressure-Compensated and Closed-Loop Systems

Equipment Specific for Barrick Mill Maintenance

PURPOSE & COURSE GOALS

This course is designed to give students the fundamental principles of troubleshooting hydraulicsystems. The Leak Path Analysis method of troubleshooting hydraulic components will be taught and tested on a Hydraulic Simulator. Fundamentals of LS/PC and Closed-Loop system operation will be discussed. The time will include classroom instruction and lab/shop training. Emphasis will be placed on hydraulic safety.

Students should expect to gain the following:

  • Know and demonstrate how to work safely while working on and around hydraulic systems.
  • Know principles of hydraulics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read hydraulic schematic symbols.
  • Know the difference between open center and closed center hydraulic systems.
  • Know the fundamentals of hydraulic system operation.
  • Know the operation of hydraulic pumps and motors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to locate sources of information related to hydraulic systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot hydraulic systems and components
  • Know operation of LS/PC hydraulic Systems
  • Know the operation of Closed-Loop hydraulic systems
