QUALIFYING CRITERIA TO ENROLL
A concurrently enrolled High School Student must:
1.be a senior or second semester junior who has failed a course and/or is behind in credits needed to graduate on time.
2.be enrolled as a full time student and not have room in his/her schedule to accommodate the course being taken at the school of attendance.
3.attend his/her school of attendance on the day he/she attends the AdultSchoolLearningCenter.
4.meet attendance requirements in the LearningCenter or he/she will be dropped from the program.
PROCESS FOR APPLICATION
1.Counselor conference with parent and student.
2.*Choose courses for remediation, complete application, attach required documents.
3.Counselor sends application and documents to CEC attention to Nicki Pierce.
4.CEC will notify counselor when student application is accepted.
5.Enrollment packet will be delivered to counselor with information about orientation, etc.
6.Counselor delivers packet to student; student completes and brings to orientation
*Course offerings in independent study will be determined by the amount of requests received. Applications will be considered for seat time if the course is unavailable.
ADULTEDUCATIONLEARNINGCENTER (AELC)
SPECIFIC SESSION DESCRIPTIONS
- AELC Multi-Subject Seat-time - This format is designed for students needing a classroom-setting environment. All assignments are completed in class only. The class meets Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and offers all required graduation subjects except Algebra and Geometry. Textbooks and materials are provided in class and are not to be taken home.
2.AELC Math Seat-time - Also a classroom setting environment (same as above), but for Algebra1, Geometry 1a and Math Electives only. Class meets Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Textbooks and materials are provided in class and are not to be taken home.
3.AELC Independent Study – Students meet face to face with a teacher once a week for one to two hour appointments. Assignments are completed at home and returned weekly. Textbooks are checked out at the student’s home school, but all other materials are provided by the AELC. Appointment times are arranged by the teacher and student. Limited subjects are available (determined by amount of requests).
- AELC Online – Students meet face to face with a teacher three times each semester (orientation, midterm and final) and all other assignments and communication is done online. Limited subjects are available (Biology, US History and English 3). Students must have Internet availability and able to access a word processing program and power point.
All LearningCenter courses meet Liberty UHSD graduation requirements, utilize adopted textbooks and adhere to district curriculum and standards and guidelines,
