ADMINISTRATOR REPORT: Goodwill Excel Center Session I Overview

  1. Opening of School Report

The Goodwill Excel Center opened its doors as scheduled on August 18, 2014 with 150 students enrolled and 141 students in attendance. The opening of The Goodwill Excel Center was preceded by diagnostic testing for all students on August 13, 2014. Testing sessions were held in the morning and afternoon to accommodate the flexible and varying schedules of students. There were 145 students tested for reading and math skill levels for the purpose of properly placing students in their classes for the first 8 week session.

On August 14th & 15th, students attended the iExcel orientation required for all students registered at the Goodwill Excel Center. At the iExcel orientation, students were given information about the school related to the curriculum, course work, daily operations, and student expectations. To ensure our enrollment goal of 150 would be reached, 274 prospective students were invited to the iExcel student orientation and to the diagnostic testing on August 13, 2014. To fill the enrollment void, 14 additional students were invited to attend diagnostic testing and the iExcel orientation on August 22, 2014. Twelve students participated in the second iExcel and diagnostic testing sessions and started classes on August 25, 2014.

Drop In Center

The Goodwill Excel Center operates a license drop in center to accommodate the needs of parents with children ages 18 months to 5 years. During the first 6 weeks of school, the drop in center has served 15 Goodwill Excel Center students. All 18 students being served are female. Currently, there are 18 children enrolled in the drop in center. The drop in center also served 10 school-age students during the iEXCEL orientation.

Staffing

The Goodwill Excel Center opened with all staff positions filled. Currently the Excel Center employs 10 teaching professionals, 3 life coaches, 1 college and career coach, 1 full time drop in center assistant child care worker, 1 drop in center director, 1 registrar and 1 head of school.

During the first session, The Goodwill Excel Center has maintained a 75.63% average daily attendance. Below is a week by week account of the Average Daily Attendance (ADA) for The Goodwill Excel Center:

Attendance data at The Goodwill Excel Center is reported usingmorning (AM) and afternoon (PM) tracks. Both tracks then reported using 2 categories of students at the Excel Center. Students at the Goodwill Excel Center are categorized as Traditional or Non-traditional for coding purposes. The Traditional students are identified as those students ages 19-26 who would traditionally be eligible for state funding under current TEA guidelines for Compulsory Education. The Non-traditional students consist of those students 26-50 who traditional would not receive funding under current TEA guidelines. Students are also assigned a high school grade level based on their current level of credits earned. The following guidelines were established to determine a student’s grade level at The Goodwill Excel Center:

Freshman = 0-5 credits

Sophomore = 6-10 credits

Junior = 11-15

Senior = 16+ credits
